In July, the LAPD decided that none of the Los Angeles police officers involved in the 2007 May Day gathering at MacArthur Park would be fired. Today, the District Attorney concluded that none of the officers involved would be prosecuted. In response, Paul M. Los Angeles, October 21, 2009 -- Members of the Los Angeles Police Protective League (LAPPL) have voted to ratify a new contract with the City of Los Angeles. The Election Committee has certified the ratification vote that was completed yesterday. The proposed MOU was passed by 87% (yes) of the 4,037 ballots cast by members.

This morning, the Executive Employee Relations Committee ("EERC"), which includes Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Council President Eric Garcetti, and Councilmembers Bernard Parks, Jan Perry and Dennis Zine, met and approved a tentative contract proposal covering more than 9,900 police officers. That tentative agreement was presented this afternoon in executive session to the full City Council. The next step of the process is for the League to take the tentative agreement to our membership for a ratification vote, LAPPL President Paul M. Weber announced.
