LAPD to honor Mayor Villaraigosa, Sheriff Lee Baca and Dodgers owner Frank McCourt

Los Angeles, August 6, 2010 - This year’s Los Angeles Police Protective League’s (LAPPL) Eagle & Badge Foundation Gala on August 21, which will honor Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca and Los Angeles Dodgers owner Frank McCourt, is expected to attract a larger audience than ever before. Each honoree will receive the In the Line of Duty -- Legacy Award, which recognizes individuals who have had a major impact on the community and established remarkable legacies.

Founded in 2001 by members of the LAPPL Board of Directors, the Eagle & Badge Foundation, a 501 (c) 3 charitable organization, provides funding to families of Los Angeles police officers and the children in the communities they serve, through community programs and organizations.

In addition, special recognition will be given to the LAPD Medal of Valor recipients and the Marine Corps - Law Enforcement Foundation. The Gala will also feature a live auction conducted by celebrity auctioneer Sharon Stone. At the hosted reception, guests will have an opportunity to mingle and meet with special units of the LAPD, including SWAT, Bomb Squad, Underwater Dive Team and K-9 Unit.

Foundation CEO Arthur M. Kassel will join last year’s honorees, KCBS Sports Director Jim Hill and L.A. City Council President Eric Garcetti, in co-hosting the event. The Gala will be held at Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel. RSVPs are due by August 17. Tickets and sponsorships, as well as event details are available through the Eagle & Badge Foundation’s website -- eagleandbadgefoundation.org or by calling (818) 994-4661.
