LAPPL applauds President’s selection of new U.S. Attorney

Los Angeles, December 24, 2009 - Paul M. Weber, President of the Los Angeles Police Protective League (LAPPL), issued the following statement upon learning that President Barack Obama has nominated LAPD Inspector General Andre Birotte Jr. to be the next U.S. Attorney for the district that covers Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties.

“We commend the President for an excellent selection. Andre Birotte Jr.'s background, education and experience make him well suited for this important position. As police officers, the Board of Directors appreciates the importance of collaboration between federal and local law enforcement agencies. As United States Attorney, Mr. Birotte will possess the understanding and recognition of the practices, issues and challenges facing local law enforcement.

Mr. Birotte is a man of fairness and integrity who has been willing to review matters involving law enforcement with an objective eye. While there have been times we have disagreed with him on issues, the Los Angeles Police Protective League is certain that his conclusions were based on a genuine analysis of the facts. We respect Mr. Birotte and the value that his position has brought to the Los Angeles Police Department, and are confident he will serve the residents of the Central District in an exemplary manner.”
