Los Angeles, July 28, 2010 - The Los Angeles Police Protective League (LAPPL) today joined other public safety organizations in supporting Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley for California Attorney General.
“Steve Cooley has dedicated his life to protecting the public’s safety. He has been a professional prosecutor for 36 years, a reserve LAPD officer for six years and the Los Angeles County District Attorney for the last decade. It is time that the Attorney General – the state’s “top cop” – be a prosecutor committed to doing the job and supporting law enforcement and enforcing the death penalty, rather than be another politician merely looking to use the position as a stepping-stone for higher office,” said Paul M. Weber, President of the Los Angeles Police Protective League.
“Steve has always worked closely with the police agencies and officers in Los Angeles County as our partner in fighting crime, drugs, gangs and sexual predators. As Attorney General, we are confident that he will continue to do the same. Steve has been a leader in promoting the use of DNA and other new scientific techniques to help solve crimes and has established special units to help the most vulnerable crime victims and has gone above and beyond his call of duty to fight for working people as a district attorney, and we know he will do the same as California Attorney General,” added Weber.
About the LAPPL: Formed in 1923, the Los Angeles Police Protective League (LAPPL) represents the more than 9,900 dedicated and professional sworn members of the Los Angeles Police Department. The LAPPL serves to advance the interests of LAPD officers through legislative and legal advocacy, political action and education. The LAPPL can be found on the Web at www.LAPD.com.
