Los Angeles Police Protective League announces candidate endorsements

LOS ANGELES, February 1, 2011 – Voters will head to the polls on February 15 for the special primary election and on March 8 for city council elections. Today, the Los Angeles Police Protective League (LAPPL), which represents over 9,900 LAPD officers, announced its endorsements.

After a formal and standardized process that included questionnaires and interviews by the Delegate Political Action Committee (PAC), and with the committee’s unanimous recommendation, the Board of Directors made its formal endorsement of candidates. “The interview process was designed to ensure that candidates endorsed by the League share public safety as a top priority and will be able to work together to help create jobs, improve the city and implement practical solutions to everyday problems,” said Paul M. Weber, president of the LAPPL.

The LAPPL has studied these races closely and believes the candidates it is endorsing recognize that the recent gains in public safety have not been accidental, but rather, have come as a result of years of dedicated work by LAPD officers and adequate public safety funding.

Based on their responses and interviews, the LAPPL is endorsing the following candidates:

  • Paul Krekorian, L.A. City Council District 2
  • Tom LaBonge, L.A. City Council District 4
  • Tony Cardenas, L.A. City Council District 6
  • Forescee Hogan-Rowles, L.A. City Council District 8
  • Herb J. Wesson, Jr., L.A. City Council District 10
  • Mitch Englander, L.A. City Council District 12
  • José Huizar, L.A. City Council District 14
  • Sharon Runner, California State Senate District 17 (special primary election)
  • Emmett Badar, San Dimas City Council
