LOS ANGELES, April 8, 2011 – In response to the announcement of new security measures at Dodger Stadium after an attack in a stadium parking lot left San Francisco Giants fan Bryan Stow critically injured, Los Angeles Police Protective League President Paul M. Weber issued the following statement:
Like all Los Angeles residents, our thoughts and prayers are with Giants fan Bryan Stow and his family. We strongly support the aggressive measures that will be undertaken at Dodger Stadium to quash violence and rowdy behavior displayed by a few individuals. A baseball game should be a safe and enjoyable event for everyone. Chief Charlie Beck’s commitment to provide a highly visible presence and prompt response by uniformed LAPD officers will serve as both a deterrent to rogue behavior and an assurance to all fans of any team that they can attend Dodger games and root for their team without fearing for their personal safety. Frank McCourt’s hiring of former LAPD chief Bill Bratton to advise the organization on internal procedures and help with the assessment of security policies and procedures at Dodger Stadium demonstrates swift leadership to address this problem. We pledge our expertise to help him in any way we can.
