The 2010 Eagle & Badge Gala takes place August 21st once again at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel. Presented by the Los Angeles Police Protective League's Eagle & Badge Foundation the event this year "In the Line of Duty - The Legacy Awards" will honor individuals who have had a major impact in the community and established remarkable legacies in our City. Arthur M. Kassel, President of the E&B Foundation, announced that "Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Frank McCourt - owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers and the LA Marathon, and Los Angeles County Sheriff Leroy D. Baca will be honored this year along with special recognition to the LAPD Medal of Valor recipients and the USMC Law Enforcement Foundation. We are also confirming a surprise honoree to be announced shortly."
Two of last year's honorees - KCBS Sports Director Jim Hill. LA City Council President Eric Garcetti and Arthur Kassel will co-host the event which begins with a cocktail reception, silent auction and the LAPD Experience, which offers the guests the opportunity to mingle and meet with the various divisions and special units of the department - SWAT, Bomb Squad, Underwater Dive Team, Canine Unit and more. The gourmet dinner will begin around 7pm followed by the awards tributes and headline entertainment. Special guests and participants will be announced in the coming weeks.
Heading up the 2010 Dinner Committee as Chairs are LAPD Chief Charlie Beck and Robert M. Hertzberg, Esq. of Mayer Brown. Kassel serves as Gala Event Chair and Exec. Producer with Peter Repovich, E&B Chairman, is Vice Chair.
Funds raised will benefit The Eagle and Badge Foundation which provides much needed financial support for police officers and their families, along with the children and community based organizations in the community they serve AND the Tichi Wilkerson Kassel Parkinson's Foundation which funds research and special need cases of those afflicted with Parkinson's disease. Last year's Gala was attended by over 800 friends from the business, political and entertainment community helping the Foundation to raise funds and over forty grants were provided in 2009 thanks to the generosity of attendees and sponsors.
