9 cited in West LA immigration rights protest

Nine immigration-rights protesters have been arrested after blocking the street in front of a West Los Angeles federal building near UCLA. California Highway Patrol Officer Miguel Luevano says the demonstrators lay down on Wilshire Boulevard in front of the building during a demonstration Thursday that involved about 75 demonstrators.

He says six women and three men were detained, taken to a CHP station, cited for refusal to disperse and released.

The arrests were peaceful.

Protesters were calling for passage of a federal bill known as the Dream Act that would permit conditional residency for college students who are in the U.S. illegally.
