Giovanni Ramirez, the man accused by Los Angeles police in the brutal beating of a San Francisco Giants fan at Dodger Stadium, also is a suspect in a gang shooting in Nevada, LAPD officials said Wednesday.

Ramirez, 31, was taken into custody last week following an exhaustive, seven-week investigation into the attack in the stadium parking lot that left Bryan Stow, a Bay Area paramedic and father of two, in a coma with brain damage.

A second assailant and a woman who drove the men away are still being sought.

Ramirez, described by police as a documented gang member, has not yet been charged in the beating and is being held on suspicion that he violated the terms of his parole from a previous crime.

His attorney has said Ramirez is innocent and on Tuesday presented police with statements from several people who allegedly vouched for Ramirez's whereabouts during the March 31 game.

Police in Los Angeles are not the only law enforcement officials interested in Ramirez. He is named by detectives in Henderson, Nev., about 20 miles outside of Las Vegas, as a suspect in a gang-related shooting earlier this year, according to senior LAPD officials, who asked that their names not be used because of the ongoing investigation.

The Los Angeles CBS affiliate first reported Ramirez's relation to the Henderson case.

The LAPD source said investigators from the two agencies had been in contact about Ramirez, but added "we're still trying to determine how good their case is and how interested they are in him."

Henderson police had not sought a warrant for Ramirez's arrest, according to the source.

As police in Los Angeles continue to try to build a case against Ramirez, he is expected to submit Wednesday to a lie-detector test.
