A Los Angeles City Council candidate has come under heavy criticism after she said, "F--- the police," during a meet-and-greet event with college students in which an audio recording was leaked. Jurado was asked about her stance on spending discretionary funds on police overtime. "What's the rap verse? F--- the police, that's how I see 'em," Jurado responded, appearing to reference the 1988 N.W.A. song, "F*** tha Police."

The Los Angeles Police Protective League (LAPPL), which represents rank-and-file LAPD officers released an ad Tuesday calling for voters to choose another council candidate over the "foul-mouthed, immature and disrespectful f-bomb attack on local police officers."

1 Dead After Armed Robbery At Luxury High-Rise In DTLA

A person was fatally shot during a robbery at a downtown Los Angeles high-rise apartment building Monday afternoon. Just after 4:30 p.m., three men armed with guns entered an apartment at 1000 W. 8th St., according to Officer Miller of the Los Angeles Police Department. That address corresponds to the luxury high-rise Thea at Metropolis, which was the site of another fatal shooting nearly two years ago. This time, the robbers demanded property from the victim, who was then fatally shot after an argument, Miller said. The identity of the victim has not been released. Two of the robbers fled on foot, while the third fled in a vehicle, police said.

Suspect Arrested After Morning Stabbing Aboard Metro Train In Downtown LA

A suspect was arrested after someone was stabbed on the B/D Metro train line in downtown Los Angeles Tuesday morning. Officials with the Los Angeles Police Department said the stabbing happened around 6 a.m. at the Metro station located at the intersection of 7th and Figueroa streets. The stabbing victim was taken to an area hospital in stable condition. Meanwhile, the suspect was detained by security and later arrested by LAPD officers. The incident did not impact service. Those with information about the stabbing are asked to contact the LAPD.

Los Angeles Man Sentenced For Trafficking Hundreds Of Thousands Of Fentanyl Pills, Caused Fatal Overdose

A Los Angeles man has been sentenced to over 20 years for trafficking hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of fentanyl-laced pills and cocaine across the country. Brian McDonald, 23, of Van Nuys, also admitted to causing one fatal fentanyl overdose and using the dark web for his operations, the Department of Justice revealed in a release. Reports show McDonald oversaw and carried out hundreds of drug sales, distributing more than 12 kilograms (over 26 pounds) of fentanyl through hundreds of thousands of laced pills. His operations ran from at least April 2021 until he was taken into custody in May 2023. McDonald pleaded guilty in July 2024 to one count of conspiring to distribute fentanyl and cocaine, as well as one count of possessing firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. The firearms included two gold-plated handguns, one without a serial number, that the DOJ said McDonald owned to protect his drug trafficking business and the proceeds of sales made. “This defendant led a drug-trafficking operation that used the dark corners of the internet to ship large quantities of fentanyl-laced pills – with deadly consequences,” said United States Attorney Martin Estrada. “My office will continue using every tool under federal law to prosecute and imprison criminals who prioritize greed over human life.”

DUI Suspect Arrested After Allegedly Hitting Parked Cars In North Hollywood

A man was arrested Sunday after attempting to flee from the scene where an SUV slammed into six parked vehicles in North Hollywood, authorities said. Officers were dispatched to the 5700 block of North Fulcher Avenue, just north of Burbank Boulevard, at about 4 a.m. Sunday regarding an overturned vehicle, according to Officer Rosario Cervantes of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Division. The SUV overturned at the scene of the crash and wound up on its roof, while footage from the scene also showed substantial damage to several parked cars. The alleged SUV driver was eventually arrested. Paramedics rushed the suspect to a hospital and officers “took a misdemeanor DUI report,” Cervantes said. The motorist’s condition was not immediately clear.

Arrest Made In Barney's Beanery Valet's Assault In West Hollywood

Authorities arrested one person in connection with the brutal attack on a long-time valet at Barney’s Beanery in West Hollywood. The suspect attacked 51-year-old Efrain Zarazua, who is known among his coworkers as “Frankie” outside the West Hollywood bar on Saturday, Sep. 14, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Detectives believe the suspect was also behind other brutal assaults against at least five people between 10:15 p.m. and 10:35 p.m. Saturday. The Sheriff’s Department is expected to hold a news conference Tuesday to share more details. Zarazua’s son had said his father was recovering after being taken to the hospital in critical condition. “It was horrific, sad and fills you with anger that somebody could do that to somebody else,” said A.J. Sacher, Zarazua’s colleague. During the unprovoked attack, the suspect allegedly punched Zarazua in the face while he was working, causing him to fall to the ground and lose consciousness. The suspect then kicked the victim several times on his head and upper body before fleeing the area on foot, according to sheriff's officials.

Los Angeles County Man Gets 15 Years In Prison For Dealing 19,000 Counterfeit Fentanyl-Laced Pills

A federal judge sentenced a Los Angeles County man to 15 years and eight months in prison Monday for dealing 19,000 counterfeit oxycodone pills laced with fentanyl in 2021. Juan Luis Martinez, a 48-year-old resident of Bell, received the sentence after a jury found him guilty one count of conspiracy to distribute fentanyl, one count of distribution of fentanyl and one count of distribution of methamphetamine on July 24, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California. The verdict was reached following a trial that lasted two days. In October 2021, Martinez delivered more than 19,000 pills laced with fentanyl, packaged into a plastic bag that was stuffed into a bra, to two women in a parking lot. The women then took the thousands of pills and delivered them to three men at another location. Law enforcement officers had followed the women, and they later pulled over the three men and seized the drugs. According to federal prosecutors, Martinez also sold more than 300 grams of meth to someone two months later, in December 2021. He has been in federal custody since January of last year.

Massive Southern California Sting Nets 29 Arrests, Guns, Drugs

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department announced that they made 29 arrests, seized nearly a dozen firearms and recovered illicit drugs as part of their ongoing Operation Consequences. According to an SBSD bulletin, a coalition of law enforcement agencies continued their probe into organized crime rings in and around the city of San Bernardino, including Chino, Fontana and Bloomington, over the last week. The one-week period culminated in five search warrants being served on Friday at the following locations: 19200 block of 4th Street, Chino, 7300 block of Poplar Drive, Fontana, 1100 block of West Mill Street, San Bernardino, 18800 block of 14th Street, Bloomington, and 10700 block of Linden Avenue, Bloomington. Investigators contacted gang members and individuals prohibited from possessing guns during the service of the warrants, SBSD said. As a result, a total of 29 people were arrested – 11 on felony charges and 18 on misdemeanors – and 10 firearms, including one ghost gun, were seized. Illegal narcotics and marijuana were also recovered during the operation, authorities added.

‘America’s Longest-Serving Sheriff’ Dies At 92 After Being Elected 13 Times, Serving More Than 50 Years

 Houston County Sheriff Cullen Talton, believed to be America’s longest-serving sheriff, has died at age 92, WMAZ reported. Talton passed away peacefully at his home Saturday morning, according to a statement from Houston County sheriff candidate Matt Moulton. Talton was elected sheriff in 1972 and served Houston County for over 50 years, according to the report. Before becoming sheriff, Talton was a county commissioner with no prior law enforcement experience. Under his leadership, the Houston County Sheriff’s Office grew from 28 employees to more than 300, adapting to technological changes and evolving crime trends. Governor Brian Kemp expressed condolences on social media, honoring Talton’s decades of public service. “Marty, the girls and I are saddened by the passing of America’s longest-serving sheriff, Houston County Sheriff Cullen Talton,” Kemp said in a statement. “For nearly 52 years, Sheriff Talton remained committed to serving and protecting the people of his community,” Kemp wrote. “He became a beloved fixture of Georgia law enforcement.”

Six Hospitalized After Fire Breaks Out In Attic Of Assisted Living Facility In West Hills

At least six people living at an assisted living facility in West Hills had to be assessed by paramedics on Monday after a fire broke out in the attic of the home. The fire was reported a little before 5:20 a.m. at a house in the 7600 block of N. Faust Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. Firefighters arrived to find that the fire had caused smoke to billow throughout the home by the time they arrived. They had to cut several holes in the roof to allow that smoke out from inside. The property acts as an around the clock care center for elderly residents, of which there were reportedly six at the time of the fire. Crews say that five of those residents were bed-ridden and forced to shelter in place when the fire broke out. None of the patients were expected to have suffered critical injury. All were treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to a nearby hospital for further assessment, firefighters said. The cause of the flames remains under investigation by arson investigators.
