Police on Monday were seeking information in the slaying of a 34-year-old man fatally shot in South Los Angeles.

Edjardo Chavez was found about 3 a.m. Monday lying in front of a home in the 100 block of West 73rd Street, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

A resident called police after seeing Chavez on the ground.

Since January 2007, at least 165 homicides have been reported within two miles of Monday's killing, according to a database compiled by The Times' Homicide Report.
