LAPD veteran retires with daughter as his partner

You could say Los Angeles Police Sgt. Patrick Shannon took the "take your daughter to work day" very seriously.

Shannon's daughter, Samantha, followed in her father's footsteps and became a LAPD officer about two and one-half years ago.

Patrick Shannon will retire after nearly 30 years on the job Thursday, and to mark this bittersweet occasion, father and daughter will patrol together on his last day.

The elder Shannon began his career December 1980 in the Central Division. His daughter works the 77th Street Division.

He went on to also work for Rampart, Van Nuys and Rampart, to name a few other places he left his mark.

Following his retirement, Shannon says he will travel and enjoy life with his wife of 35 years.
