Man found guilty of murdering LAX police officer

A former aerospace worker has been found guilty of first-degree murder and carjacking in connection with the death of an airport police officer at Los Angeles International Airport in April 2005.

Jurors returned the verdict against 51-year-old William Sadowski Monday. The sanity phase of his trial was to begin later Monday.

Sadowski had pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity of murdering Officer Tommy Scott, who was dragged to death as he tried to hold onto his patrol car, which Sadowski had just stolen.

His attorney argued Sadowski-who has a long history of mental illness-was hallucinating and didn't intend to kill the officer.

If Sadowski is found sane, he'll face life in prison without parole. If found insane, he'll go to a mental hospital.
