A pipe bomb in a backpack was discovered Monday night inside a planter in the foyer of LAPD's 77th St. Division station at 77th St. and Broadway Ave.

What led up to the discovery isn't known yet however, one man is in custody in connection with the bomb.

L.A. City Fire and an LAPD bomb squad was brought in to secure the area and defuse the bomb.

A robot was used to cover the bomb with a special blanket to contain any explosion.

The pipe bomb was placed inside a tank and detonated.

What connection, if any, the man in custody has with the bomb has yet to be made public.
