Villaraigosa reappoints Mack to police commission

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa announced today he is reappointing John Mack to a second term on the Police Commission.

"John has served the commission with a steadfast commitment to the brave men and women of the LAPD and the communities they serve,'' Villaraigosa said. "I am confident that he will continue to serve with the passion and dedication that have been the hallmark of his tenure on the commission.''

Villaraigosa first appointed Mack to the civilian panel, which sets policy for the Los Angeles Police Department, in 2005. He is currently its president.

Mack, a civil rights leader, served as the president of the Los Angeles Urban League from 1969 until his retirement in 2005. He was a leader in the 1960 student civil rights movement in Atlanta.
