A woman accused of fatally stabbing her 10-year-old daughter at Fort MacArthur in San Pedro was ordered Monday to stand trial on a murder charge.

Long Beach Superior Court Judge Jesse Rodriguez found sufficient evidence to require the case against Bong Sook Chavez, 50, to proceed to trial.

The woman is accused of stabbing her daughter, Quesi, about 2:30 a.m. July 9 and then trying to kill herself.

Police said earlier this year that a preliminary investigation suggested the girl was in bed at the time.

Chavez's husband, a retired U.S. Navy reservist, heard noise coming from his daughter's room and rushed inside, the Daily Breeze reported in July.

Donald Chavez Jr. found his wife stabbing herself. The daughter already had been stabbed.

He wrestled the kitchen knife from her and called police.

Quesi, a student at Holy Trinity School in San Pedro, died several hours later at the hospital.

Bong Sook Chavez was arrested later that afternoon by the Los Angeles Police Department's Juvenile Division and has remained jailed since then on $1 million bail.

Fort MacArthur is an administrative center and residential community for the Los Angeles Air Force Base in El Segundo.

Police said Chavez has a history of mental illness.
