Officer, 2 Others Hospitalized After Being Shot In Arcadia; Suspect Arrested After Hours-Long Standoff
An officer and two other people were shot by a man who barricaded himself inside a home in Arcadia for more than five hours after a family dispute escalated Wednesday evening. "Sad situation all around," said Arcadia police Lt. Brett Bourgeous. "We're concerned about the person inside. We're concerned about the people that were injured." The incident began as a dispute between two brothers, one of which was armed, at about 5:45 p.m. at a home in the 2500 block of Greenfield Avenue. When officers arrived, the suspect opened fire, striking an officer in the face and a female family member in the upper body. The third victim, an 80-year-old man who lives across the street, was struck by a bullet that flew through the window of his home as he and his wife babysat their granddaughter. The officers did not return fire, Bourgeous said. As the situation unfolded, Arcadia police called for help from Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Special Enforcement Bureau. While other departments also responded to the scene, LASD took control of the tactical situation soon after. Another officer suffered minor injuries during the incident when they attempted to take cover after the suspect started firing shots. They were rescued from behind a tree on the property where they were taking cover by a SWAT team on scene.

Stabbing Victim Found Dead In Studio City
A stabbing victim was found dead Wednesday morning in Studio City. The body of a man was discovered at about 4 a.m. in the 4000 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard, just north of Ventura Boulevard near several restaurants, shops and other businesses. Information was not immediately available on the identity of the man. He is about 20 to 30 years old, police said. No arrests were reported. A detailed description of the attacker was not available. Homeless Brawl On Venice Boardwalk Makes National Headlines
A brawl recorded between two transients on the Venice Boardwalk is creating quite a buzz. Video of the incident has been shared on numerous social media channels including @savevenice and has been published in national outlets including Daily Mail. The video shows two transient men fighting with numerous objects including a metal pipe, skateboard and shopping carts. One of the men is heard telling the other "Do it B***", while the other is gesturing towards him with a skateboard. The man then picks up a pipe--and the other guys is seen taking off. "You better run," he tells the man until a shopping cart is picked up and thrown at the man. The area of the fight, near Dudley court, has been a hot spot for crime and drugs for more than a year. Campers who stay in the area are said to be service resistant transients who never left the boardwalk after last years major effort to clear more than 200 encampments. Within the past few months, a woman was found deceased from a drug overdose. Police were also called to the same area for three separate stabbing incidents since April.

Two People Break Into Sylmar Mortuary, Drink Alcohol And Steal Fire Extinguisher, Sheriff’s Officials Say
Detectives at the Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station are looking to identify the two people who broke into a mortuary in Sylmar. According to the sheriff’s department, the two people broke into the Glen Haven and Sholom Memeorial Park and Mortuary on Lopez Canyon Rd. In Sylmar on July 4, around 3 a.m. The suspects broke into the mortuary by removing tape and throwing a rock through a previously broken window. Once inside, they searched the building, then drank alcohol and stole a fire extinguisher, officials said in a statement. Surveillance cameras caught images of the two suspects. The first suspect appears to be a man with long black hair. The second suspect appears to be woman with long black hair and bangs and has a possible tattoo on her right calf. LASD Searching For Missing LA Man Who May Be Headed For Venice
Sheriff's detectives asked for public assistance today to find a 47-year-old man who went missing in Los Angeles. Alsides Noe Sandoval, who is also known as Noah Medina, was last seen around 1 p.m. on July 31 in the 11600 block of Western Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. He may have been headed for Venice or Santa Monica beach, the LASD reported. Sandoval is Hispanic, stands 5-feet-9 inches tall and weighs an estimated 203 pounds. He has long brown hair, brown eyes and a beard, the LASD reported. He was last seen wearing a gray jacket and red/white pants, and has ``NTW DEU 18 19'' tattoos on his neck. Anyone who has information on his whereabouts was asked to call the LASD's Missing Persons Unit at 323-890-5500. Tipsters can also call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.

Search Underway For Suspect Connected To Armed Robbery At Culver City ATM
Authorities are searching for a suspect wanted in connection with an armed robbery an ATM in Culver City on Monday. According to Culver City police, the robbery took place at around 1:30 a.m. at the Chase Bank on Sepulveda Boulevard, where a man had just withdrawn $400 dollars from an ATM "when he was approached by the suspect, who produced a black handgun and demanded his cash." The suspect was described as a male standing about 6 feet tall with a thin build. He was wearing a surgical mask, a gray hooded-sweatshirt and dark-colored pants. After stealing the money, "the suspect ran towards Sprouts Market and out of view," police said. Anyone with information on the case was urged to call police at (310) 253-6316 or (310) 253-6202.

Man Shot To Death In Lynwood; Investigation Underway
A 52-year-old man was fatally shot Tuesday in Lynwood, and an investigation was underway. Detectives were sent to the 3500 block of East Imperial Highway at about 11:30 a.m. on reports of a person down and found the man with apparent gunshot wounds in front of a business, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported. The wounded man died at the scene, the sheriff’s department reported. Information on his identity was not immediately available. LASD Looking For Suspects Into June Shooting In Compton
Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies are searching for answers into the shooting death of a man in Compton back in June. Back on Saturday, June 11, deputies reported to the 4000 block of E. Pauline Street in Compton. When they arrived they found 50-year-old Lawrence Bullock had been shot and killed. Police did not offer any description of a potential suspect, nor did they provide any information as to what may have led to the shooting. Authorities Searching For 11-Year-Old Boy Missing From Compton
Authorities Tuesday were searching for an 11-year-old boy who went missing in Compton over the weekend. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said Jose Daniel Bejar was last seen at 5 p.m. on Sunday in the 1100 block of East Peck Street. He is described as a Hispanic boy who is 5-foot-1 and weighs 110 pounds. Jose has brown hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing a white shirt and brown pants. "His family is concerned with his well-being and asking for the public's help," the LASD said. 'I Couldn't Let That Happen': Deputy Saves Man Dangling On Bridge Over Raging River
A North Carolina sheriff’s deputy knew he had to act when he spotted a distraught man straddling a bridge guardrail 20 feet or so above a swollen river. The man appeared emotionally upset as he climbed onto the concrete guardrail over the South Fork River near Lincolnton and looked down, Lincoln County sheriff’s Deputy Holden Prater told The Charlotte Observer on Friday. “I knew I had to get to him quickly,” Prater said. Just 10 minutes earlier, Prater said, he encountered the 21-year-old man when the deputy responded to a nearby domestic call. Prater said the man was likewise visibly upset when the deputy showed up at the home. Prater declined to provide more details about the call. Prater was back on routine patrol on Long Shoals Road when he said he spotted the man sitting partially over the concrete guardrail about 5:15 p.m. last Monday. The deputy said he saw a bicycle parked along the guardrail. The man had already stood up and looked down at the river’s rapid current when Prater said he pulled up in his patrol car. Certain the man was about to jump, Prater said, he left his car, ran about 10 feet, and pulled him to safety.

LAFD Cadet Saves A Man's Life After A Crash
If you are an LAFD cadet, you are supposed to learn the responsibilities of being an LAFD firefighter, not get called into action. Last year at the age of 17, Leo Kaufman put himself on duty. He came to the rescue of a 79-year-old man, and now he's being hailed as a hero. "I actually wasn't very nervous," Kaufman said. "He jumped out of his vehicle into a chaotic scene," said an LAFD firefighter at a ceremony honoring Kaufman. Last summer a car ran a red light in Hidden hills and hit Dennis Platt's truck with such force that he and his dog were ejected from the car. This left Platt on the asphalt with no pulse. "If he wasn't there I wouldn't be here," Platt said. The LAFD cadet performed CPR until other firefighters could arrive. "It's because of Leo's fearlessness to jump into action, his wisdom, and his strength that my dad's body his not suffer from lack of oxygen," said daughter Lacey Platt. As members of the LAFD hailed Kaufman as a hero, he took the time to make a statement and credit his training.

How To Get A Monkeypox Vaccine In L.A. County, And How To Know If You’re Eligible
It is possible to get a monkeypox vaccination in L.A. County if you’re eligible. It just might require a little patience. All of the available vaccine doses in Los Angeles County are being given to participating clinics through the Department of Public Health. The department allows a limited amount at a time to ensure those clinics give out all the vaccines before getting more of them. “They’re trying to intentionally dole it out in small batches so we make sure vaccines are being delivered into arms as quickly as possible,” said Ward Carpenter, director of health services for the Los Angeles LGBT Center, which is one of the participating partners. To get the monkeypox vaccination in Los Angeles County, you need to sign up through the public health department. When vaccination appointments are available, the department lets you pre-register for an appointment at a clinic. When you pre-register, you’ll need to enter your name, phone number and email, and answer some questions. The confirmation notice says it will place you on a list, and you’ll be notified when it’s your turn to get vaccinated. When there are no appointments available, you won’t be able to sign up for pre-registration.

City Council Looking To Permanently House Those Displaced By South LA Fireworks Explosion
The Los Angeles City Council instructed the city's housing department Wednesday to look into how to provide permanent housing to remaining residents displaced by a fireworks explosion last year. The June 2021 controlled detonation by the Los Angeles Police Department on East 27th Street, near San Pedro Street, sent 17 residents and first responders to hospitals, destroyed a bomb squad truck and damaged 22 residences, 13 businesses and 37 vehicles. As of June 30 -- one year after the incident -- 18 families are still living in hotel rooms paid by for by the city. Twenty-three people in six households had been relocated to permanent housing. Eight more households were ready to relocate and searching for affordable units. The city has spent more than $1.3 million in accommodations. Councilman Curren Price, who filed the motion, noted that "since a number of displaced residents continue to live in temporary housing, there is a need to address barriers keeping them from relocating to permanent housing." The motion instructed the housing department to report back in 30 days on relocation consultants who could help the city in permanently housing the residents.
