Teacher Arrested For Allegedly Molesting A Child Under 14

A 29-year-old teacher suspected of committing lewd acts with a child under 14 years old was arrested Monday. Los Angeles Police Department officers executed a search warrant Monday after receiving numerous reports of child molestation by Martin Reyes Jr., then arrested the East Los Angeles resident, police said. Reyes' bail was set at $1 million. The LAPD declined to disclose the name of the school in Los Angeles County Reyes teaches at, citing safety reasons. Detectives with the LAPD's Juvenile Division's Abused Child Section said they believe Reyes is responsible for additional, unreported sexual assaults and asking anyone who may be a victim, or has additional information to call Juvenile Division Detective Morales at 213-486-0598. Rapper 50 Cent Is Shaking His Head Over L.A.’s Zero-Bail Policy: ‘Watch How Bad It Gets’

Rapper Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson is no fan of L.A. County’s reinstated zero-bail policy. “LA is finished,” he said in an Instagram post. In late May, a Los Angeles County judge issued a preliminary injunction against cash bail for people suspected of most nonviolent misdemeanors who had been arrested but not yet arraigned. In the cash bail system, bail amounts are set by a predetermined schedule, not by a person’s ability to pay. Those unable to pay bail or secure a bond must remain in custody. The injunction stemmed from a lawsuit filed on behalf of several people who had been arrested and experienced “dismal” conditions while in detention because they could not pay bail. In an Instagram post from last week, Jackson said, “LA is finished watch how bad it gets out there. SMH [shaking my head]” The comment accompanied a May 23 KNTV report about the development, and Jackson tagged his cognac and Champagne companies in the post. Opponents of ending cash bail say the practice leads to a rise in crime rates and results in more suspects failing to appear for arraignment.

Reseda Man Arrested For Sexual Assault; Police Seeking Additional Victims

Police are seeking additional victims of a man who was caught breaking into homes in Reseda and sexually assaulting the victims. According to Los Angeles Police Department, Mario Orozco, 31, was arrested on July 1 at around 4 a.m. after he allegedly entered multiple houses in the 18300 block of Vanowen Street. "Once inside the residence, Orozco sexually assaulted the victims and fled the location on foot in an unknown direction," said a statement from LAPD. After a preliminary investigation, detectives were able to identify and locate Orozco before taking him into custody. He is currently being held on $2.5 million bail. Orozco has an extensive criminal history and has been arrested in the past for drug possession, committing lewd acts, trespassing, making criminal threats and resisting an officer, according to California court records. Due to the nature of the crimes, police are asking any potential victims to contact them at (818) 374-7742.

15-Year-Old Dog Dies After Being Kicked By Homeless Man In Venice

The 15-year-old Yorkshire terrier who was brutally kicked by a man in Venice in June died from his injuries on July 9. Bart was with his owner, Laura Michele Rosenfield, on June 14 at around 3 p.m. when the incident happened. The dog was kicked so hard … "he flew into the metal claw of the bobcat tractor city workers were using to repair the street," according to a GoFundMe started by Rosenfield's neighbor. The man accused of kicking the dog, 39-year-old Michael Langman, was also accused of hitting a person over the head with a glass bottle the same day, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Langman was arrested for kicking the dog Bart, who was in critical condition, left unable to stand and thought to have suffered a traumatic brain injury after the blow. A former firefighter visiting the area with family the day of the attack was able to revive Bart, who suffered a number of seizures after he resumed breathing, the GoFundMe said.

LAPD: Man Arrested In Arson Fire At Los Angeles City Hall

A man was arrested for allegedly setting a fire at Los Angeles City Hall over the weekend, police said Monday. Carlos Tercero-Maradiaga, 36, was arrested about 6:15 p.m. Sunday in the downtown Los Angeles area, and he was booked on suspicion of arson, the Los Angeles Police Department reported. The fire was reported about 8 p.m. Saturday, according to the LAPD. "The suspect broke a second-floor window and set fire to an interior office at the Los Angeles City Hall, located at First Street and Main Street," the LAPD said in a statement. "The fire was immediately contained, and no injuries were sustained during the incident. "Los Angeles Fire Department Arson Investigators confirmed an accelerant was used to commit the arson," police said. "At this point, there is no indication that this arson is related to any other arson or crime series."

A surveillance video shows the terrifying moment two exotic dancers were robbed at gunpoint outside their home in Los Angeles’ Panorama City neighborhood the night of the BET Awards. Now, they’re sharing their story to help other women. "It was just a regular work night for us," Maiya Courtney recalled. "We weren’t expecting anything to happen out of the ordinary." However, something out of the ordinary did happen and it happened in the blink of an eye. Dancer "Ace Notorious" said the incident occurred within seconds of them getting out of an Uber and grabbing their items from the trunk. "In the moment, I don’t think we realized what was going on," she said. The video shows two men running toward them as they pointed guns in their faces and demanded their belongings. Maiya Courtney said she was frozen in fear and didn’t process what happened until she watched it back on video.

Authorities Seek Public’s Help Locating 34-Year-Old Woman Missing Out Of L.A.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a 34-year-old woman missing out of L.A.’s Beverly Grove neighborhood. Enjoli Lattice Walker, who also goes by the name Angie, was last seen on May 4 in the 8000 block of Beverly Boulevard. The 34-year-old is described as a Black female who is 5 feet 2 inches tall, weighing approximately 120 pounds with brown hair styled in braids, brown eyes, and has a mole on the left side of her chin. It is unknown what she was last seen wearing. “Ms. Walker suffers from mental and medical conditions. Her family is concerned for her well-being and is asking for the public’s help,” LASD’s missing person bulletin said. Man Hospitalized With Gunshot Wounds Suffered In Burbank

Burbank police said Saturday they are investigating a shooting that left a local man hospitalized with multiple wounds. The shooting was reported about 10:40 p.m. Friday in the 500 block of East San Jose Avenue, north of Glenoaks Boulevard, according to a Burbank Police Department press release. Arriving officers found evidence of a shooting in the north alley of East San Jose Avenue between Sixth Street and Glenoaks Boulevard, police said. As more officers arrived, they located a man in the alley suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and began rendering aid. Paramedics took the 45-year-old Burbank man to a trauma center, where he was listed in fair condition with wounds not believed life-threatening, police said. Detectives conducted a crime scene investigation, talking to witnesses and collecting evidence and surveillance video, officials said. They were working to identify a suspect or suspects and determine the circumstances that led to the shooting. They do not believe it was a random act of violence.

Escaped California Homicide Suspect Captured After Manhunt

The search for a homicide suspect who had escaped law enforcement custody after fleeing a hospital in a Sacramento suburb has ended, sheriff's officials said. Eric Abril, 35, was taken into custody around 12:12 p.m. Monday afternoon in Rocklin. He was found hiding in a greenbelt area on Zion Court at Bryce Way, according to the Placer County Sheriff's Office. In an unusual move, the sheriff's office posted a photo from Abril's arrest of him nearly naked, wearing jail boxers and sitting in grass with officers behind him. The sheriff's office said Abril still had his waist chains on when he was captured. After his escape at around 3 a.m. on Sunday from the Sutter Roseville Medical Center, Abril had evaded authorities for over 24 hours. In April, he had been arrested for allegedly shooting a California Highway Patrol officer and two hostages, killing one, in a park in Roseville. The city is situated approximately 16 miles northeast of Sacramento. Abril was charged with murder, aggravated kidnapping and attempted murder of a peace officer in connection with the shooting. He was booked in the Placer County jail without bail.

Indiana Deputy Killed By Inmate In Failed Escape Attempt

A prisoner in Indianapolis attacked and killed a sheriff’s deputy while attempting to escape jail, according to authorities. Orlando Mitchell, 34, was riding in a prisoner transport van with Marion County Sheriff’s Deputy John Durm, 61, law enforcement leaders told the Indianapolis Star. Durm had taken Mitchell to a medical appointment away from the jail and was returning to the facility, according to local TV station WISH. Mitchell then assaulted Durm and stole the vehicle, Marion County Sheriff Kerry Forestal said. But Mitchell’s dramatic escape did not last long, according to Forestal. He made it out of the jail campus and crashed just outside the parking lot, the Star reported. Three officers arrived to detain him. Mitchell was in jail because he’d been charged with the murder of his ex-girlfriend, Krystal Walton, in September. He fatally shot Walton outside a daycare for their 1-year-old son, according to police.

Philadelphia Police Officer Dragged By Car During Traffic Stop

A Philadelphia police officer was injured when he was dragged more than 200 feet by Tesla that fled from a traffic stop Monday night in the city's Frankford section, police said. Just after 9:40 p.m. at Cheltenham Avenue and Charles Street, the highway patrol officer and his partner were conducting a routine traffic stop of the Tesla when the officer noticed a gun on the floor under the male driver, said Chief Inspector Scott Small. With the driver-side door already open, the officer tried to grab the gun when the driver sped off in reverse, "at least 100 feet, probably more ... and the officer was holding on for his life," Small said. Then the driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, shifted gears and sped forward around 100 feet before he physically kicked the officer off the vehicle and fled eastbound on Cheltenham, Small said. Medics transported the officer to Jefferson Frankford Hospital with scrapes and bruises to his ribs and legs, Small said. The officer was expected to be treated and released.

Fire Burns For 4 Hours At Medical Supplies Warehouse In Paramount

A fire at a Paramount commercial building burned for four hours early Monday, but firefighters prevented flames from spreading to nearby businesses. The fire was reported around 12:30 a.m. in a 40,000-square-foot building in the 7500 block of East Rosecrans Avenue. Firefighters took up positions outside the burning building as flames shot through the roof and a large cloud of black smoke formed over the southern Los Angeles County community. Medical supplies, including masks and sanitizer, were being stored in the warehouse. It was not immediately clear how the fire started. The fire was reported out at 4:45 a.m.
