2 officers, civilian injured in Mid-City crash involving LAPD patrol cruiser and another vehicle

Two Los Angeles police officers and a civilian and were injured Wednesday morning in a Mid-City crash involving an LAPD cruiser and another vehicle, authorities said. The crash occurred shortly after 9 a.m. near the intersection of Venice Boulevard and Cochran Avenue. Two police officers from the LAPD's Wilshire Division and the driver of a civilian car were hurt, a police spokesperson told ABC7. At least one person was transported to a hospital in unknown condition. Video from AIR7 HD showed the heavily damaged police SUV ended up against a light pole on the center median. Nearby, a BMW sedan was on a sidewalk near a toppled street light. The sedan's rear bumper was hanging off of the car. The officers were on patrol at the time of the collision and were not en route to an emergency call, the spokesperson said. Authorities say the crash is being investigated as as accident.

$50K reward offered for information in Arleta fatal hit-and-run investigation

A $50,000 reward is being offered for information in a hit-and-run crash that left a bicyclist dead in Arleta over the weekend. The incident occurred around 10:50 p.m. Aug. 12 when a black Infiniti Q50 was heading west on Van Nuys Boulevard. The car crashed into a bicyclist who was also heading west, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The driver of the car fled the scene without stopping to identify himself or help the bicyclist, who suffered fatal injuries. The Infiniti was last seen heading south on Canterbury Avenue from Van Nuys Boulevard, leaving debris on the roadway, police said. The driver was described as a man about 24 years old, standing around 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing around 180 pounds. He was wearing a red and black baseball cap and a gray tank top, and has a tattoo of a “P” on his right forearm. Police did not elaborate on how they had such a detailed description of the suspect. Police investigate 2 people found dead in Westlake area

Police are investigating two bodies found Wednesday morning in the Westlake area of Los Angeles. The bodies were discovered about 7:30 a.m. in the 1300 block of West Second Street, in an outdoor area at the end of a cul-de-sac near the Toluca stairs. Paramedics were sent to the location on a report of a "medical emergency," Preliminary information is that one of those dead is a roughly 30-year-old man. The Identity of the other person is not known. Los Angeles Police officers at the scene said later that it appears the two are unhoused and that they both suffered drug overdose deaths.

5 taco trucks robbed at gunpoint across Los Angeles overnight, investigation underway

Five taco trucks across the Los Angeles area were robbed at gunpoint overnight, and police believe the same group of suspects are responsible. One robbery happened at 11 p.m. Wednesday at a taco stand on Alvarado Street in Echo Park, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Three suspects got away with about $700 in cash. Two other trucks were hit in the Westlake District overnight. Those robberies happened at Union Avenue and Shatto and 3rd and Bixle streets, the department said. During another robbery on Santa Monica Boulevard in Hollywood, an unknown amount of cash was taken. The fifth robbery happened in downtown Los Angeles at 9th Street and Broadway around midnight. Workers there say the men pulled guns on them and then stole more $600. "Our cook, they dragged her to the wall. They pushed her... Three of them came up, one of them was the driver. They went off and took off with the money," said Ricardo Antonio. Police say the robberies all involved at least three suspects. In all the incidents they were seen getting away in a white Honda Civic.

Nearly a dozen people loot high-end clothing store in Hancock Park

The recent rash of smash-and-grab robberies continued Tuesday as a group of 11 young men raided and pillaged a high-end clothing store in Hancock Park. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the 11 young men dawning ski masks ran inside the Ksubi store right before closing time at about 7 p.m. Detectives said the group ran past security guards and took off with an estimated $100,000 in stolen goods. A local business owner said the hectic incident lasted less than a minute. "They looked at me. I closed the door because I got scared," said the business owner, who did not want to share his name. "Then, about 20 seconds later they were running the other way with hands full of clothes and hangers." Officers arrested two juveniles connected to the robbery but the search for the others continues. This is the second time this year the retailer has been ravaged. In January, another group of thieves used a car to plow through the front of the building and pocket everything they could.

Miguel Rojas, Dodgers shortstop, has car broken into after game

A thief broke into the car of Miguel Rojas, shortstop for the Los Angeles Dodgers, and stole a purse, iPhone, credit cards and other valuable items, according to media reports Wednesday.

Rojas was having dinner with his family in downtown Los Angeles after the Dodgers 6-2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday night.

San Jose officer fighting for life after shooting, partner praised for heroics

A veteran San Jose police officer remained in critical but stable condition Thursday morning after an ambush shooting Wednesday, and her partner is being hailed as a hero. The injured officer has not been identified, but the police department said she has been with SJPD for 10 years, and she's the department's first female officer to be shot in the line of duty. She's the second San Jose officer to be shot this year in what the police chief called a "heinous and cowardly act."

Manhunt underway for suspects after Texas deputy critically wounded during traffic stop

Authorities in Harris County are asking for the public’s help in locating a man they say shot a sheriff’s deputy in Harris County on Wednesday evening. According to a Blue Alert, which is sent out when someone injures or kills a police officer, authorities are trying to locate 34-year-old Terran Green. Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said at a news conference Wednesday night that a 29-year-old sheriff’s deputy was shot during a traffic stop. Green was last seen driving a blue 2016 Ford Escape with the Texas license plate SVJ6590. He was wearing a gray shirt and black shorts. In an update shortly after midnight, authorities identified a second suspect believed to be in the vehicle as James Green, 37. Around 4:45 a.m. Thursday, authorities said police had located the suspect vehicle, but the two suspects were still at large. Anybody with information is urged to call 911 immediately. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said in a news conference Wednesday night that the deputy was shot while conducting a traffic stop on Homestead Road around 7:40 p.m.

4 Tennessee officers, victim wounded in deadly hostage situation

A hostage situation at a Tennessee apartment complex erupted into gunfire early Wednesday when police entered the residence after an hourslong standoff, leaving four officers and the hostage wounded and two brothers barricaded inside dead. The episode began Tuesday afternoon when the Clarksville Police Department executed arrest warrants at the apartment complex on aggravated burglary charges for the two brothers, according to preliminary information provided by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. It did not say specifically whose gunfire hit those who were injured or killed. The brothers, 31-year-old Brandon Green and 33-year-old Leonard Green, then barricaded themselves into an apartment with the hostage, spurring several hours of negotiations with Clarksville police, the TBI statement said. At least one of the brothers fired several shots at officers during the episode, the Clarksville Police Department said via Facebook. The bureau said the situation escalated when officers entered the apartment and gunfire broke out shortly after 12:30 a.m., which is when the Green brothers were killed. The four officers' wounds were not considered life-threatening.

Los Angeles General Medical Center seeks to identify patient

Los Angeles General Medical Center in Boyle Heights is asking for help identifying a patient who has hospitalized since Aug. 11. The man is about 25 years old, 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 114 pounds, according to the hospital. He has a medium build, black hair and brown eyes. He was found at 601 S. San Pedro St. in downtown Los Angeles. No further details about the patient, including his injuries or condition, were released. 5 people injured in golf cart crash in Brentwood

Five people were injured after a golf cart overturned during a crash in the hills near Brentwood. Despite the golf cart overturning, no one required an extrication. All five of the injured suffered minor injuries or illnesses and are in fair condition, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. Firefighters have not released the ages of the patients. It's unclear what caused the crash.

3 people hospitalized after two cars crash next to a LA Metro bus stop

Three people were rushed to the hospital after two cars collided near a Metro bus stop. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the crash happened around 6:40 p.m. in the 450 block of 51st Street in Vermont Square. Paramedics took three patients in serious to critical condition to the hospital, while four others remained at the scene after declining medical care. It's unclear what caused the crash. According to the preliminary report from firefighters, the bus driver was not injured and no occupants were riding on the bus at the time of the crash. Metro said the bus was not involved in the crash and was parked at a nearby bus stop. LAFD clarified that they were initially called because two people were ejected from a vehicle and were trapped underneath the bus.

L.A. City Council backs effort to block Bulgari development in Benedict Canyon

The Los Angeles City Council on Wednesday moved to try to block a developer’s planned luxury hotel in Benedict Canyon amid opposition from some neighbors and the council member who represents the hillside area. On an 8-6 vote, the council backed Councilmember Katy Yaroslavsky’s motion asking the city’s planning director to intervene and consider stopping the proposed Bulgari Resort Los Angeles. Developer Gary Safady’s planned 58-room hotel is already going through the city’s environmental review process after clearing an initial city planning hurdle several years ago. However, the resort hasn’t been approved by the City Council and would need another vote once its environmental review is done. Yaroslavsky argues that the hotel is inappropriate for the area, particularly amid the growing threat of hillside fires. She has spent the last several months trying to halt the project from continuing through the review phase. “The last thing we should be doing is putting a hotel smack in the middle of a high-fire-severity zone,” Yaroslavsky said. “Simply put, it is the wrong project in the wrong location and shouldn’t have gotten this far in the first place.”

Councilmember Traci Park Asks for $800K to Repair Temescal Canyon Road

Councilmember Traci Park wrote in a motion “Temescal Canyon Road is a critical thoroughfare in the Pacific Palisades Community, linking Sunset Boulevard to Pacific Coast Highway. It appears that the southbound lane of Temescal Canyon Road between Pacific Coast Highway and Bowdoin Street is experiencing structural instability due to water seepage from the heavy winter rains earlier this year.” On Friday, Park asked the L.A. City Council budget and finance committee to approve $800,000, which is the amount of money that the Bureau of Engineering says will be needed to repair the road. The City Council will also need to approve it. Circling The News asked about a timeline and Park’s spokesperson Jamie Paige said it could take about a month. Initially, when BOE said they had a possible fix, Street Services said that there was no money budgeted for an emergency repair. One resident asked why didn’t Park use discretionary funding? Unfortunately, when former councilmember Mike Bonin left office, he emptied the coffers.
