Crowd Shatters Rear Window Of LAPD Vehicle At Street Takeover

The rear window of a Los Angeles Police Department patrol vehicle was shattered after an officer arrived at the scene of an overnight street takeover in the San Fernando Valley, authorities said. The incident occurred at the intersection of Vanowen Street and Woodley Avenue in Van Nuys, where drivers and spectators held one of multiple sideshows late Saturday night and early Sunday. As the officer responded to the scene, the crowd surrounded the patrol unit and smashed the rear window. The officer drove away from the location for personal safety reasons, and the crowd dispersed. Another street takeover was held at Strathern Street and Whitsett Avenue, drawing a massive crowd as cars performed donut maneuvers in the middle of the intersection. No arrests were announced.

A 27-year-old woman was killed in a hit-and-run crash in North Hollywood, and police are seeking the public's help finding the driver. It happened Friday around 7 p.m. at the intersection of Victory Boulevard and Beck Avenue. She was rushed to the hospital where she later died. "I saw the aftermath," said Brenda Galdamez. "It's really heavy. It's something you can't know until you see it. It's heartbreaking, and not knowing who it was until they confirm it was even scarier." The Corolla was later found abandoned along the curb on Victory Boulevard, east of Troost Avenue. Police did not have a detailed description of the suspect, saying only that he is a man in his 50s "who fled the scene on foot without identifying himself or rendering aid, as required by law."

Los Angeles County Dist. Atty. George Gascón will announce criminal charges Monday in the slaying of “General Hospital” actor Johnny Wactor, who was killed in May by men suspected of trying to steal the catalytic converter from his car. Los Angeles Police Department Interim Chief Dominic Choi will also be on hand at the press conference scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Hall of Justice downtown, according to a news release from the L.A. Georgia Deputy Killed In Ambush Shooting During Domestic Dispute Call By Suspect Who Took His Own Life

A Georgia sheriff’s deputy was shot and killed while responding to a reported domestic dispute in what police said was an ambush on officers by a suspect who took his own life. Two deputies responded to a call shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday and immediately were fired upon from a home in a subdivision in Hiram, Georgia, Major Ashley Henson of the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office said during a briefing. The male suspect also fired “a hail of bullets” at other officers but only one was shot, Henson said. Deputy Brandon Cunningham, 30, died at a hospital from a gunshot wound, Paulding County Sheriff Gary Gulledge confirmed during the briefing. “Tonight, we’ve lost a hero,” Gulledge said, adding that “it’s going to be a tough time for all of us and all of our guys.” The suspect, who was not immediately identified, died of what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Henson said. A woman who was involved in the domestic dispute had left but returned while police were at the scene. She also had been shot and was transported to an Atlanta-area hospital and listed in stable condition, Henson said.
