Central Area's National Night Out continues its tour of Downtown neighborhoods on Tuesday, August 3, with a Chinatown event offering live jazz, food, boxing, karate, a carnival, an "Iron Chef" competition and a police-guided bicycle tour.
National Night Out was created in 1984 by the National Association of Town Watch to promote more community involvement in crime prevention. Central's event, which will take place in Chinatown's Central Plaza (951 N. Broadway), offers a chance to get to know those involved in keeping Downtown safe.
In recent years, the event has been held at Olvera Street (2009), Little Tokyo (2008), the Arts District (2007) and Pershing Square (2005 and 2006).
Tuesday's free event runs from 6 to 10pm. The bicycle ride is scheduled to begin at 8pm.
