The Los Angeles Police Historical Society on Saturday presented Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley with its Jack Webb Award at the society's annual gala dinner.

Named after the actor who played Sergeant Joe Friday on the radio and television series "Dragnet," a life-long supporter of the police department, the award is presented to individuals who have demonstrated sustained support of law enforcement through actions, accomplishments and deeds, the society said.

Cooley accepted the distinction at the annual gala, which was held at the Sheraton Universal Hotel in Universal City and raises money for the society and its programs, including the Los Angeles Police Museum.

He served in the Los Angeles Police Department's Reserve Officer Program while attending law school at USC. After graduation, he worked as a law clerk for the district attorney's office, while working patrol from Newton Station for nearly five years. A life member of the California Narcotic Officers' Association, Cooley serves on the advisory board of the organization's Survivors' Memorial fund, which benefits next of kin of California peace officers killed in the line of duty. He also is on the Board of Governors for the Desert Refuge for Peace Officers and currently serves as president of the Peace Officers Association of Los Angeles County.

Other honorees included Jay Grodin of The WKM Group and Kerry H. Morrison of Hollywood Property Alliance.
