1 Arrested After Shots Were Fired At Officers In North Hollywood

One person was in custody after shots were fired at Los Angeles Police Department officers Monday morning in North Hollywood. No injuries were reported in the shooting just before 5 a.m. in the 1200 block of Victory Boulevard. Police were in the area with stores, a gym and several other businesses when they encountered a person who fired several rounds, police said. Details about what led to the shooting were not immediately available. The California Highway Patrol closed the Victory Boulevard offramps from the northbound and southbound 170 Freeway for the investigation. Victory Boulevard was closed from Laurel Canyon Boulevard to the 170 Freeway.

Woman Stabbed To Death In South LA, Son Fights Off Suspect, Police Say

A woman was stabbed to death and another man was injured after an attack in South Los Angeles on Friday night. It happened around 9 p.m. Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department were called out to the 100 block of 94th Street. When they got there, they found the two people suffering from stab wounds. According to officers, the man and woman, both 35, were sitting in a car when the suspect walked up to the car. That's when officers said he stabbed the man in the car. The woman in the car ran off, but the suspect chased her, stabbing her multiple times. Officers said that the woman's son pushed the attacker off her before he ran away. Paramedics with the Los Angeles Fire Department brought both victims to the hospital. The woman was later pronounced dead; the man is still in the hospital and listed in stable condition. The attacker from Friday's attack is still on the loose. Police are still searching for him, but didn't offer a detailed description. The LAPD said to FOX 11 that the attack may have been a domestic incident.

Venice Canals Rapes: Murder Suspect Pleads No Contest, Accepting Life In Prison, LAPD Detective Says

Anthony Jones, the man at the center of the Venice Canals rapes, pled no contest to all counts and is accepting life behind bars for the murder and rape of 53-year-old Sarah Alden and the rape of 54-year-old Mary Klein, Los Angeles Police Department detective Brent Hopkins tells FOX 11. The news of the sentencing comes without possibility of parole, the LAPD detective told FOX 11's Hailey Winslow. He will serve two additional sentences back-to-back: 107-years-to-life in prison and eight years in prison, the detective said. As a result of his "no contest," essentially reflected as "guilty" pleas, he forfeits his right to appeal. "This is the best possible outcome for everyone, including Mr. Jones," Hopkins told Winslow. "We spend a lot of time focusing on the actions of this one evil guy doing something unspeakable," Hopkins said. "But when you think of the overall of this story, and how the community came together to support the victims Mary and Sarah, rather than question humanity, it actually reaffirmed my faith in people’s goodness. Looking at how the Venice neighborhood looks out for each other and was supportive in bringing Mr. Jones to justice reminded me that this is who we are as a people."

SoCal Gym Owner, Fitness Influencer Critically Injured In Robbery, Shooting

A Southern California-based fitness influencer and gym-chain owner was left in critical condition after he was shot during a robbery in Los Angeles on Friday. Miguel Angel Aguilar, "sustained a gunshot injury and is currently fighting bravely in the intensive care unit" his Instagram account posted. Aguilar's Self Made Family account, which has nearly 50,000 followers on Instagram, provides advice on fitness as well as entrepreneurship. Self Made Training, headquartered in Temecula, has more than two dozen gym locations in California, Arizona, Nevada, Florida and Texas, according to its website. Los Angeles police say four suspects approached a 43-year-old man on the 11400 block of North Thurston Circle around 4:20 p.m. Friday. They demanded property and at one point fired shots at him, then fled the scene. The suspects remain outstanding. The police account did not identify Aguilar by name. His Instagram account asked for prayers and support for the public.

Deputies, Family Seek Help Looking For 14-Year-Old Daughter In Los Angeles

Deputies and family members are asking for the community’s help in searching for 14-year-old Makiyah Shirley, also known as “Kiyah,” in the city of Los Angeles. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said Shirley was last seen on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 7:10 p.m. on the 9300 block of Firth Boulevard. Shirley is described as a Black girl, 5 feet 2 inches tall, about 116 pounds, with short red and black hair in a bun, brown eyes and a scab on her left knee. The department said she was last seen wearing gray shorts with a flower design, a black hoodie, gray shoes, gold heart earrings and a gold heart necklace. Her family is concerned for her well-being and asking for the public’s help in bringing her home. Officers encourage anyone with information about Shirley’s whereabouts to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department at 323-568-4913.

California Police Recover 700 Catalytic Converters, 1000 lbs Of Copper Wiring

East Bay authorities on Tuesday arrested three men on suspicion of buying and selling millions of dollars worth of stolen copper wire and catalytic converters. The San Pablo Police Department learned about the alleged sales last month and launched a joint investigation with the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office, the law enforcement agency said in a news release. Police said the investigation determined the suspects were “involved in the purchase, sales and possession of stolen catalytic converters and stolen copper wire.” Around 8 a.m. Tuesday, officers and deputies served two search warrants in the 1700 block of Road 20 in San Pablo and in the 1000 block of Brookside Drive in Richmond. A “significant cache of suspected stolen property” was recovered, including more than 700 catalytic converters, 1,000 pounds of copper wire and $113,000 in cash, police said. “The suspects are believed to have been involved in an ongoing criminal enterprise to buy and sell stolen property, with more than $6.4 million in transactions in 2024 alone,” police said. The men were arrested and expected to be booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on felony charges of grand theft of copper materials and receiving stolen property. FBI: Trump Target Of Apparent Assassination Attempt At Florida Golf Club

Donald Trump was the target of what the FBI said “appears to be an attempted assassination” at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday, just nine weeks after the Republican presidential nominee survived another attempt on his life. The former president said he was safe and well, and authorities held a man in custody. U.S. Secret Service agents posted a few holes up from where Trump was playing noticed the muzzle of an AK-style rifle sticking through the shrubbery that lines the course, roughly 400 yards away. An agent fired and the gunman dropped the rifle and fled in an SUV, leaving the firearm behind along with two backpacks, a scope used for aiming and a GoPro camera, Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said. The man was later stopped by law enforcement and taken into custody in a neighboring county. He had a calm, flat demeanor and showed little emotion when he was stopped and didn’t question why he was pulled over, according Martin County Sheriff William Snyder.

Violent 2-Car Crash In North Hollywood Leaves 3 Hospitalized

At least three people were rushed to the hospital after a violent two-car crash in North Hollywood Sunday evening. Medical personnel with the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to reports of the crash in the 11200 block of Oxnard Street, between Lankershim Boulevard and Vineland Avenue at around 6:45 p.m. It is unclear exactly how the crash occurred, but fire officials said one of the three victims was briefly trapped in their vehicle before firefighters were able to rescue them. Two of the victims were taken to the hospital in critical condition and another in serious condition, LAFD said in a news release. Footage of the incident obtained by KTLA and posted to the Citizen App showed the two vehicles involved in the accident completely totaled. A long field debris on Oxnard Street could be seen as a result of the crash. Longtime North Hollywood resident Anthony Tadman, who lives near where the crash occurred told KTLA that he heard the collision from his home and ran out to see what happened.

City Officials Ignored Neighbors' Warnings In Chinatown. Then Fire Erupts At Abandoned Construction Site

Neighbors say their fears came true after a fire in a large apartment building in the Chinatown neighborhood early Friday left six people injured, including two firefighters, and temporarily displaced dozens of families. At 3:43 a.m. Friday, the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a fire that started at a construction site on Bunker Hill Avenue and that then jumped to a nearby three-story apartment building, according to a news alert. More than 130 firefighters went to the scene, extinguishing the fire in an hour and a half. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. An estimated 70 people have been displaced from the apartment building while the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety evaluates the residence to determine which units are safe to reoccupy. Six people were injured by the fire, including a 90-year-old man who was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. A woman, 55, was taken to a hospital with a non-life-threatening burn injury. Two others were assessed for injuries but declined transportation to the hospital.

"An Angel In The Right Spot," Friend Says Of Firefighter Who Rescued Woman From Wildfire Flames

When the Airport Fire spread into Riverside County, Dean James and his friend, Jackie Hunter, tried to escape the flames moving closer toward their home in Lake Elsinore. They had their car all packed and ready to go. Then, it wouldn't start. Hunter panicked and ran off as she feared for her life. James later saw her surrounded by smoke and flames in the massive wildfire, which has now burned more than 23,000 acres and destroyed 82 homes as firefighting crews work around the clock. "She was walking through hell, and I was at the gate looking and I couldn't see her," James said. Video shows her walking just feet away from bright red, roaring flames as embers fly around on the ground below her. A patrol vehicle with flashing lights pulls up just as some towering flames in the background grow taller, winds sweeping them upwards. Cal Fire Riverside Battalion Chief Mark Martinez tried to reassure her as she got in. "She was screaming in pain and wanted help," Martinez said. "And I told her I'm gonna get her help. We're gonna get off the hill."
