Pendleton -- identified by police as the ex-boyfriend of the child’s mother -- and the child were last seen on 66th Street and Normandy Avenue at approximately 10 p.m. Monday, according to the California Highway Patrol, which issued the alert on behalf of the Los Angeles Police Department. The Amber Alert was issued for Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties. Los Angeles police told NBC4 Investigates said they were found Tuesday morning at a hotel in Gardena. A rash of home burglaries reported in the San Fernando Valley, including an assault on a resident
An armed burglary Thursday night marks the sixth in a string of break-ins targeting nervous residents in the Valley. Police responded at 8:30 p.m. to a call from homeowners in the 11900 block of Wood Ranch Road that three males wearing masks and black clothing had broken into the home, said Officer Charles Miller with the Los Angeles Police Department. The men were gone before officers arrived, and they left without stealing anything from the home. Over the last week, burglars have hit six homes in seven days in the San Fernando Valley, police said. Detectives are investigating the burglaries, police said, including one incident in which a burglar assaulted a resident. Two of the burglaries were reported Tuesday, just minutes apart and about a mile and a half apart. The first incident was reported Saturday night in the 13000 block of Davana Terrace in Sherman Oaks, Miller said. Officers received a radio call about a burglary at the home that occurred Friday, but the suspects were gone by the time they arrived, Miller said.
Neighbors frustrated with crime at abandoned South Los Angeles building
People who live near an abandoned building off 61st and Main streets in South Los Angeles say they're fed up with the city's lack of response to criminal activity. The building was once a church. It was sold five years ago. The city says the company that bought the property started construction on a housing development, then went out of business, and construction stopped. Since then, neighbors say there have been many problems and no solutions. Rosa Diaz lives right next door. She told FOX 11 there have been several fires and people trying to break into nearby houses. Last week, a fire sent fierce flames and huge plumes of black smoke pouring out of the building. Home security cameras have captured people dumping sick and dead chickens. Diaz said the most dangerous thing is that the people the building attracts are out on the street with weapons. She said she no longer feels safe. Diaz's neighbor, Rosy Martinez, said she wants the owners to close off and secure the entire perimeter of the building immediately.
California man accused of swapping Legos with dried pasta in $34K Target theft ring
An unusual nationwide retail theft scheme involving high-end Lego sets and dried pasta has been dismantled following the arrest of a California man. Jarrelle Augustine, 28, of Paramount, is accused of defrauding Target stores by swapping collectible toy components for durum wheat semolina in a series of fraudulent returns. The investigation began after Target reported at least 70 thefts nationwide linked to a single individual, totaling approximately $34,000 in losses. According to investigators, the suspect would purchase expensive Lego sets, carefully remove the valuable minifigures and specific bricks, and then fill the boxes with dried pasta to mimic the original weight. Augustine was identified through surveillance conducted by Irvine Police Department detectives and has been booked at the Orange County Jail on charges of grand theft.

Loved ones rally around Los Angeles firefighter diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer
Loved ones are rallying around a 49-year-old Los Angeles fire captain who was diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer. Captain Shaun Davis has been with the Los Angeles Fire Department for 26 years. In his career, he’s responded to all sorts of calls and battled the deadly Palisades and Eaton fires in 2025. He most recently served as a Captain at Fire Station 104 in Winnetka. Davis said he had wanted to be a firefighter since he was 4 years old. His grandfather was an L.A. firefighter and now, Davis’ 17-year-old son is an LAFD cadet. As he continued serving his community and saving lives, his health, at least at 49 years old, seemed like the last thing to worry about until he experienced a medical emergency in October 2025. Davis was diagnosed with colorectal cancer. He has since undergone radiation treatment and is receiving chemotherapy, with ongoing scans to monitor his progress. “I had the colonoscopy and came back the next day and they told me it was colorectal cancer, stage three,” he told KTLA’s Chris Wolfe. “A tumor growing in my colon. It’s just shocking news without having any symptoms, no history.”
