2 Brothers Killed In Exposition Park Shooting

Two brothers were killed Saturday afternoon following a shooting in Los Angeles’ Exposition Park area. The shooting was reported at about 2 p.m. near Browning Boulevard and Budlong Avenue. Los Angeles Police Department Capt. Michael Lorenz said surveillance cameras showed the gunman and victims were having some sort of conversation just before the shooting. The victims then got into a car and the gunman walked in the opposite direction before returning and opening fire. “We do know he walked up on foot, and from what we just found out is that he left inside of a vehicle," Lorenz said of the gunman. Video from NewsChopper4 appeared to show the victims' car covered by a pop-up tent in a yard in front of a home in the neighborhood south of downtown Los Angeles. One man died at the scene. The second was hospitalized and then later died. The names of the deceased were not immediately released. Both are believed to be in their 20s. Loved ones told NBC4 that the older brother leaves behind two young children.

California’s Rich And Famous Murdered, Burglarized And Kidnapped As Former Detective Offers Chilling Prediction

Not even the rich and famous are spared from California's raging crime crisis. From Hollywood elites to tech moguls and politicians – the Golden State's top tier residents have fallen victim to robberies, theft and even murder. But the state's leadership continues to insist the crime crisis isn't all that bad. The latest high-profile California crime to make national headlines was the murder of "General Hospital" actor Johnny Wactor. He was shot and killed by a thief attempting to steal the catalytic converter from his car, according to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). The three suspects believed to be connected to his murder remain at large, police said. Fox News contributor and former D.C. homicide detective Ted Williams told Fox News Digital that Wactor's murder was a murder of convenience. "This killing occurred because there were thugs who decided that they wanted to steal the catalytic converter on his automobile. Wactor, unfortunately, was a victim of being in the right place at the wrong time," Williams said. Wactor's senseless killing is just the latest example of the rich and famous falling victim to the state's crime crisis.

One person died and two others were injured in a car-to-car shooting in downtown Los Angeles early Sunday, with the gunman apparently popping up through the sunroof of one vehicle and firing at people seated in another car, police said. The shooting occurred a few minutes after midnight near the intersection of Maple Avenue and 12th Street in Santee Alley, the heart of L.A.’s fashion district, said Officer Norma Eisenman, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department. A male victim believed to be between 17 and 20 died at a hospital, Eisenman said. The other two victims — a 20-year-old man and 18-year-old woman — were taken to a hospital, where he remained in critical condition and she in stable condition. Eisenman said officers believe the shooting was “gang-related,” but she didn’t have more details on how they’d arrived at that conclusion. The investigation is ongoing, she said, and police haven’t made any arrests.

LA County Confirms First West Nile Virus Mosquito Sample Of 2024

A West Nile virus mosquito sample has been confirmed in Los Angeles County, officials said Saturday -- the first positive sample in Los Angeles County this year. The sample was collected from a mosquito trap in the Winnetka area of the San Fernando Valley, confirming the presence of the virus in mosquito populations within the community. "While the presence of West Nile Virus in our community is not unusual, this early detection serves as a critical reminder for all residents to take preventative actions," said Steve Vetrone, director of scientific- technical services for the Greater Los Angeles County Vector Control District. "We urge everyone to protect themselves from mosquito bites and to eliminate standing water around their homes where mosquitoes can breed." Officials said the native Culex mosquito is capable of transmitting West Nile virus and is most active during dusk and dawn. Because there is no human vaccine for the virus, residents should be proactive against mosquito bites by wearing insect repellent. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends products with the active ingredients DEET, Picaridin, IR3535, or Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus.

L.A. City Council Members Seek Answers In Legal Dispute Over Homeless Service Provider Subpoena

Two Los Angeles City Council members are seeking answers regarding a legal battle between a nonprofit homeless service provider and the controller's office over the controller's power to subpoena non- financial information. Council members Tim McOsker and Eunisses Hernandez introduced a motion Friday calling on the city attorney and controller to provide a verbal report to the Personnel, Audits and Hiring Committee on the status of the lawsuit involving Urban Alchemy. According to McOsker's office, the PAH committee is expected to hear from those officials as soon as Tuesday. Earlier this year, City Controller Kenneth Mejia began an investigation into Urban Alchemy, a vendor that receives city dollars to run climate stations -- where Skid Row residents can receive services and relief from harsh winter and summer weather. The investigation began after an Urban Alchemy employee sprayed water at a homeless person on a cold winter night, an act that was caught on video and shared on social media. In response to that incident, which occurred Jan. 18, Urban Alchemy issued a statement on X saying the "action being taken here is unacceptable, and completely antithetical to our training and values. The practitioner involved in this incident no longer works at Urban Alchemy."
