Police plan to announce a $50,000 reward Monday for information on the shooting death of a 23-year-old woman in South Park.

Shaquana Watson and her cousins were parking on the night of July 27 when another car pulled up and someone opened fired. The shooting was likely gang-related, and the intended target was not Watson but a group on the sidewalk, said Los Angeles Police Department Det. Richard Arciniega.

No one else was hit by gunfire.

"She just happened to be sitting in the wrong place in the car," Arciniega said.

Watson's mother and other relatives are expected to appeal for witnesses Monday at a news conference at the Newton police station. Arciniega said another purpose of the news conference is to remind the public that gang violence is a constant reality in parts of Los Angeles.

"Gang crime goes unseen because it doesn't get the attention the same kind of crime would get on the Westside or out in the Valley," he said.

The shooter has been described by witnesses as a Latino driving a white Ford Econoline van with no windows.
