LAPD detectives seek help finding hit-and-run driver who killed 24-year-old woman in 2023
Los Angeles Police Department detectives are asking for help from the public as they continue searching for a hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a 24-year-old woman back in 2023. The collision happened at around 10 p.m. on Nov. 14, 2023, as a black 2015 or newer four-door Infiniti was "traveling at a high rate of speed" on Arlington Avenue, when it struck two pedestrians who were crossing the street just north of Venice Boulevard, according to a news release from LAPD detectives. Police say that the man, 25, was uninjured in the crash, but the 24-year-old woman, who has since been identified as Taylor Jackson, was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics. As they continue searching for the suspect, who fled from the scene without stopping to help the victims, LAPD detectives have shared pictures and security footage from the scene of the crash. It can be viewed on LAPD's YouTube channel.
Florida woman used AR-15-style weapon in attack on Rihanna’s mansion, sources says
A 35-year-old Florida woman armed with an AR-15 style weapon fired several shots into the Beverly Hills-area home of pop star Rihanna on Sunday, and a round penetrated a wall of the mansion, a law enforcement source told The Times. Police identified the suspect as Ivanna Ortiz. She is being held on $10.2 million bail. Officials have not cited a motive for the attack. Los Angeles police responded to the report of the shooting at 1:21 p.m. Sunday in the Beverly Hills Post Office neighborhood. The pop star was home, the source said. According to police, the suspect fired multiple rounds from inside her vehicle toward the celebrity’s home. No injuries were reported in the incident, according to Police Sgt. Jonathan de Vera, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department. The LAPD radio dispatch for the incident said that at least 10 shots had been fired at the residence from a vehicle across the street from the property’s gate. The vehicle, a white Tesla, then fled south on Coldwater Canyon Drive, per the dispatch audio. As police searched for the Tesla, they relayed details over the radio: The suspect’s hair was in braids; she wore a cream-colored blouse; her car was dirty on the bottom. Officers in a helicopter soon caught sight of her vehicle and followed it to a shopping center parking lot in Sherman Oaks, where they arrested her around 30 minutes after the 911 call came in, according to radio correspondence reviewed by The Times.
Armed robbery suspect killed in police shooting at 7-Eleven in Harbor Gateway, LAPD says
A robbery at a 7-Eleven in Harbor Gateway turned deadly after officers were confronted by an armed suspect late Saturday night, the Los Angeles Police Department says. The officer-involved shooting happened shortly after 11 p.m. after police responded to reports of a robbery at the convenience store located in the 15300 block of Figueroa Street, according to LAPD. The department said responding officers found a woman, in her 30s, identified as the suspect, behind the counter. And as they tried to communicate with her, the suspect retrieved what appeared to be a firearm and officers opened fire. The woman died at the scene. LAPD said that no officers or store employees were hurt. No further details were immediately known. The investigation continues.
Armed robbery suspects open fire on victims in Studio City
Police are searching for three robbery suspects who opened fire on their victims overnight in Los Angeles’ Studio City neighborhood. Officers responded to reports of a shooting on the 4100 block of Lankershim Boulevard around 11:30 p.m. Sunday. Two robbery victims told police that three men in two separate vehicles robbed them of their gold chains, a ring, and a cellphone before firing gunshots at them, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson confirmed. Neither victim was struck by gunfire. At some point during the incident, one of the victims appeared to suffer a head injury, according to video news service KNN. Video showed the injured victim being taken by ambulance to a local hospital. All three suspects were described as Hispanic men in their 20s. One was wearing black jeans and a black jacket. A second suspect was wearing a black sweatshirt and black jeans, while the third was described as wearing a black jacket and black jeans. The suspects were last seen driving eastbound in a dark-colored Honda and a white SUV.
Rachel Zoe's Bel Air home burglarized over the weekend
Fashion designer and reality TV star Rachel Zoe was the victim of a home burglary over the weekend, officials said. Zoe, who currently stars on "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills," was away in Las Vegas when the burglary occurred at her Bel Air home, TMZ reported. On Sunday, March 8, the entertainment news outlet reported that the former celebrity stylist’s alarm company received an activation alert and notified authorities. The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed with FOX 11 they received a burglary suspect call at 1 a.m. By the time officers arrived, the suspects left the scene. Officers then spotted the three suspects in a white Tesla and initiated a pursuit. The police chase then continued onto the eastbound lanes of the 10 Freeway, where officers lost sight of the suspects' vehicle. Officials said the suspects then ditched the vehicle in Culver City where they established a perimeter. One suspect was taken into custody around 5 a.m. and was booked for burglary. The two other suspects are outstanding.
3 arrested, $1.2 million worth of meth discovered in California drug bust
Three people were arrested after authorities discovered $1.2 million worth of methamphetamine during a drug bust operation in Northern California. Following an investigation by federal and state authorities, agents served a search warrant at a Turlock property where 280 pounds of crystal methamphetamine and eight firearms were found. Three suspects were arrested at the scene, the California Attorney General’s Office announced on March 5. The meth lab on site was dismantled and processed by lab-certified California Department of Justice (DOJ) special agents and task force officers. Inside a wooden structure, agents found various common items associated with methamphetamine conversion laboratories including propane tanks, propane burners, acetone containers and fans. Agents with the DOJ’s Merced Area Gang & Narcotic Enforcement Team (MAGNET) obtained forensic samples of various liquids and recovered several fingerprints for analysis. The California Department of Toxic Substances was contacted for the destruction of hazardous materials and equipment related to the lab.
Pennsylvania trooper shot, killed during traffic stop
A Pennsylvania State Police trooper was fatally wounded when a driver shot him during a traffic stop, CBS News reported. Cpl. Timothy O’Connor was responding to a report of an erratic driver when he pulled a man over around 8:15 p.m. on March 8, according police. As he approached the driver’s side door, the driver fired shots, killing him. The driver then died by suicide. O’Connor had served with the Pennsylvania State Police since 2010, according to the report. He is survived by his wife and daughter. “Our community is shattered,” Chester County District Attorney Chris de Barrena-Sarobe stated. “We grieve for the loss of Cpl. O’Connor, and we have the deepest condolences to his family. And unfortunately we just don’t have a lot of answers as to why this happened.”

The San Antonio Police Department honored multiple officers involved in a harrowing standoff with an armed man, releasing body camera footage to highlight the brave response, the San Antonio Express-News reported. Seven officers were wounded in the incident, which unfolded as officers responded to reports of a suicidal man on Jan. 22, 2025. The newly-released body camera video highlights a rescue and evacuation performed by Officer Matthew Medina. The video begins with body camera footage from the perspective of Officer Jesus Hilaro-Marquez as he entered the parking garage where the confrontation was unfolding. Another officer can be heard yelling an abrupt warning just before gunshots can be heard. Hilaro-Marquez was struck in the leg. The video from Medina’s body camera shows him rushing to aid Hilaro-Marquez. Medina pulled Hilaro-Marquez to shelter, where another officer can be seen applying a tourniquet to. “I got you, buddy,” Medina can be heard saying. Medina then brought Hilaro-Marquez to his cruiser and rushed him to a hospital. Video shows him pulling Hilaro-Marquez out of the cruiser and taking him into the emergency room. He stayed with him through the night, according to the report.

1 dead, 2 seriously injured in Porter Ranch car crash
One person died and two others were hurt Sunday after a car crashed into a light pole in Porter Ranch, the Los Angeles Fire Department said. The crash was reported at 10:11 a.m. near the intersection of Tunney and Tampa Avenues. There, for reasons still under investigation, the driver of a car crashed into a light pole. LAFD said the fatal victim died at the scene and the two surviving victims were taken to an area hospital in serious condition. Details on the deceased, such as their approximate age and gender, were not released. The investigation is ongoing.
Larchmont home gutted by fire before Los Angeles Fire Department crews control flames
A vacant home in the Larchmont neighborhood was gutted by fire on Sunday afternoon before firefighters could control the blaze. It was reported at around 2:20 p.m. at a single-story house in the 500 block of N. St. Andrews Place, according to a news release from the Los Angeles Fire Department. More than 100 firefighters battled the blaze for just over an hour before they were able to completely extinguish the flames, crews said. "Primary and secondary searches were completed with no victims found inside the structure," firefighters said. Search dogs were requested to conduct a more thorough search of the property out of an abundance of caution, LAFD officials noted. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation and arson units were called to the scene to assist with the incident. No injuries were reported.
LAFD Knocks Down Duplex Fire in 15 Minutes
Firefighters knocked down in 15 minutes a fire outside of a duplex in Los Angeles Sunday afternoon. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded at 3:30 p.m. Sunday to reports of a fire near the rear of a one-story duplex at 2341 S. Glencoe Ave. in Los Angeles. It took 36 firefighters 15 minutes to extinguish the blaze. The cause of the fire is currently unknown, according to the LAFD. There were no reports of injuries.
