Just-released sex offender rearrested on parole violation in Orange County

A sex offender released from prison Wednesday after serving 25 years for abducting and molesting two girls was rearrested a short time later in Tustin for violating his parole.

It is not clear what condition of his parole Lawrence Joseph Brown, 52, failed to observe, said Terry Thornton, spokeswoman with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

"This all happened after hours, so we have very few details," she said. "We will need to wait until tomorrow to get more facts."

According to the Orange County district attorney's office, earlier Wednesday a woman reported having been victimized by Brown in the 1970s. As a result of the allegation, Brown could have been returned to prison, said Dist. Atty. Tony Rackauckas.

But investigators with the D.A.'s office said that about two hours after Brown's release, he was taken back into custody because he was spotted riding in a car with a woman, which reportedly violates his parole.

Thornton said she could not confirm any of those details.

Brown served time for kidnapping and molesting a 7-year-old girl and 8-year-old girl in two separate incidents in 1983.
