LA Mom Of 8 Killed After Confronting Group She Suspected Of Selling Vapes To Son

Surveillance footage obtained by KTVU captures the shooting death of a mother of eight in East Oakland who apparently confronted a carload of teens she suspected of selling marijuana vape pens to one of her children. Maria Ramos, 33, was fatally shot near the intersection of Hilton Street and Bancroft Avenue around 2:20 p.m. on Aug. 7. Ramos had just gotten out of her mother's car and apparently released pepper spray into the back seat of a Toyota carrying the suspects, video shows. A witness and a source close to the investigation also corroborate that. A 16-year-old boy then got out of the Toyota and opened fire, killing Ramos. The alleged shooter was arrested and is being held at Alameda County Juvenile Hall. His name was withheld because of his age. Isaiah Gomez, 19, the alleged driver, was charged by Alameda County prosecutors with being an accessory in the case. The incident began when Ramos and her mother saw the car near their home and suspected the occupants of selling marijuana vape pens to one of Ramos' children, authorities said.

Teen suspect arrested in deadly Tarzana hit-and-run

An 18-year-old suspect was arrested and booked Friday morning after investigators said he ran over a man and left him to die on a street in Tarzana. 

The suspect was identified as Nathan James, a Reseda resident. Officials with the Los Angeles Police Department said around 11:30 p.m., a 73-year-old man was crossing the street at Ventura Boulevard and Melvin Avenue, when a car driven by a teen hit him. When first responders arrived, the victim was declared dead at the scene.

Man Stabbed By Assailant At Studio City Metro Station

A man was stabbed and injured Friday during an altercation at the Metro Universal City/Studio City Station. The stabbing was reported just midnight near the 3900 block of Lankershim Boulevard and responding Los Angeles Police Department officers found the victim at the station with stab wounds to an arm, according to NBC 4. The victim was treated at the scene by Los Angeles Fire Department personnel. It was not immediately known how the stabbing occurred and there was no suspect description.

Victim Shot In A Sunland Jack In The Box Restroom, Suspect Arrested

Police surrounded a Sunland liquor store where a suspect was holed up after shooting a person in a Jack in the Box restroom Thursday morning. Just before 10 a.m., police responded to the fast food restaurant in the 8400 block of Foothill Boulevard, where the suspect was located. After a short foot pursuit, the suspect went into a liquor store in the 8300 block of Foothill Boulevard. Around 10:30 a.m., police surrounded the liquor store, where the suspect was holed up inside. He was taken into custody a short time later. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, a 35-year-old shooting victim at the restaurant was transported to a hospital. The man suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

4 People Arrested In The Killing Of ‘General Hospital’ Actor Johnny Wactor

Four men have been arrested in the slaying of “General Hospital” actor Johnny Wactor, Los Angeles police announced Thursday. Law enforcement sources told The Times the investigation had focused on Florencia 13 gang members tied to catalytic converter thefts in the region. After reviewing videos and interviewing witnesses, homicide detectives with the Los Angeles Police Department identified three men, one with distinctive facial tattoos, who they say jacked Wactor’s car on Hope Street near Pico Boulevard to steal its catalytic converter before shooting and killing him May 25. A statement of probable cause used to obtain search warrants named Robert Barceleau, Sergio Estrada and Leonel Gutierrez, all age 18, as suspects. The three were targeted after police said their fingerprints matched those lifted from a floor jack they used while trying to steal Wactor’s catalytic converter. Barceleau, Gutierrez and Estrada were booked on suspicion of murder on Thursday and held in lieu of $2-million bail, according to L.A. County Sheriff’s Department records. An additional person, Frank Olano, 22, was arrested on suspicion of being an accessory to murder.

Dad Of 2 Shot, Killed At A Shopping Center In Glendale

A dad of two was shot and killed at a Glendale shopping center. Those who knew the victim said he was a regular at the coffee shop located in the 800 block of North Pacific Avenue. The man was pronounced dead at the scene on Thursday, August 15, Glendale Police Department said. The alleged gunman has since taken off from the scene. As of Thursday night, officials have not revealed the suspect's name and no description have been released. The person killed in the shooting has not been identified as of Thursday night.

Man, Woman Sought In Search For Missing Children, Ages 2 And 4

Authorities are searching for a man, woman and two children who were last seen in Los Angeles County earlier this week. The California Highway Patrol issued an Endangered Missing Advisory (EMA) on behalf of the Los Angeles Police Department Friday morning. Officers are searching for Wyman and Willow Bryant, ages 2 and 4, who were last seen around 3 p.m. Wednesday in Los Angeles. They were possibly traveling in a champagne-colored Buick Enclave with paper plates, the CHP stated in a post on X, formerly Twitter. The kids were believed to be with Tiffany Bryant, 39, and David James, 53, who were described as suspects in the post. Tiffany Bryant stands 5 feet four inches tall and weighs about 100 pounds with blond hair and brown eyes. James height was unknown but he weighs about 170 pounds with gray hair and blue eyes. Anyone who comes in contact with Bryant or James was asked to call 911.

Man Selling Child Sexual Abuse Material In Southern California Took Amazon Gift Cards As Payment

A 30-year-old man in San Bernardino County has been arrested it was discovered had nearly 3,000 files of child sexual abuse material (CSAM), authorities announced Thursday. Investigators with the Redlands Police Department arrested Bradley Clarence Peck on Aug. 13 near his home in the 13300 block of First Avenue in Victorville. After receiving two cyber tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, detectives served a search warrant at his residence, recovering numerous electronic devices containing more than 2,950 of CSAM, a Redland PD news release stated. Authorities determined that the 30-year-old, who works for a company with locations in Redlands and Rancho Cucamonga, used a KIK messenger app to upload the illicit material in approximately 20 transactions with other users. “Peck sold the images through KIK and other online apps in exchange for Amazon gift cards and cash transactions to his PayPal and Cash App accounts,” the release noted. Peck was booked at the Central Detention Center in San Bernardino and released on $30,000 bail.

Drug Lab With 300,000 Pills And Machinery For Making Drugs Found In Southern California, Police Say

A criminal investigation led detectives to what authorities describe as a "clandestine drug lab" in Fountain Valley, where they discovered 300,000 pills and equipment for manufacturing drugs, according to police. Dozens of plastic bags filled with small orange pills, which police suspect are laced with fentanyl, were piled up at the building located in the 10600 block of Ellis Street, as seen in photos released by the Buena Park Police Department. Investigators discovered the location while executing a search warrant there, with warrants also served in Westminster and Buena Park. The lab is connected to a 26-year-old Buena Park resident, according to police. There was also machinery used to make drugs found at the suspected lab, police said. Hazmat investigators with the Orange County Health Care Agency's Environmental Health Hazardous Materials Team responded and removed what police said were hazardous materials. The investigation into the case remains ongoing. No other details have been released by authorities. ‘Kill Him!': Video Shows Disturbing Ambush Attack On California Deputy, Fatal Shooting

New video shows a dramatic fight between a Riverside County sheriff’s deputy and a man and woman before the deputy fatally shoots the woman. The video of the June 11 incident shows the struggle lasted for four minutes before help arrived. The deputy, who has not been identified, was in the 1000 block of West 6th Avenue in Corona shortly after 1 a.m. when he saw a man and woman acting oddly, Sheriff Chad Bianco says in the video. When the deputy tries to speak with them, the pair — identified as Eric John Nourani, 32, and Jennifer Rose Dobbins, 30 — run behind a building. The deputy follows. When he catches up with them, the video from his body-worn camera shows, he is attacked by Nourani. “Kill him! Kill him!” Nourani repeats to Dobbins during the attack. The deputy is on top of Nourani on the ground, his hand on the man’s throat, while Dobbins grabs his arms and shouts again and again, “In the name of Jesus, I rebuke you.” About two minutes into the fight, Dobbins begins to kick the deputy while he struggles with Nourani, and the deputy fires at Dobbins, killing her. Dobbins cries out after she is shot and is seen lying several feet away while the men continue to fight. “Help me. Eric, I’m scared,” she says. Shortly after the incident in June, sheriff’s officials said Nourani was trying to take the deputy’s gun. In the video, as Nourani struggles with the deputy, he shouts, “Get the gun!”

Texas Officers Escort Son Of Fallen LEO On First Day Of Kindergarten

Members of law enforcement escorted the son of a fallen Dallas police officer to his first day of kindergarten, WFAA reported. Nico DeLaRocha, starting his first day of school, was accompanied by officers from the Dallas Police Department and Sunnyvale Police Department, including the department’s mounted patrol. The officers gathered to honor the memory of Nico’s father, Dallas police Sr. Cpl. Jose DeLaRocha, who passed away suddenly last August, according to the report. “It’s a big day for him. It’s kindergarten, and we wanted to come out and show our support,” said Dallas police Sgt. George Aranda. Sr. Cpl. DeLaRocha died of a heart attack last year while playing with Nico, leaving his family and colleagues grieving. To ensure Nico knew he was not alone, the officers stepped in to escort him to his first day of class. Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia, who held Nico’s hand as they walked to school, expressed the department’s commitment to supporting Nico and his family. “Walking this little boy to school, holding his hand, the smile on his face, I hope he always knows we are family,” Garcia said. “I know as a father, his dad would have given anything to be here, so I know he’s looking down and he’s smiling today.”

In Paris, the French government packed homeless people and migrants onto buses and sent them out of the city as the Summer Olympics approached. In 2016, more than 70,000 were displaced from Rio de Janeiro's favelas to make way for the event. And ahead of the Games in 1984, the Los Angeles Police Department saddled nearly three dozen mounted horse patrols to scatter homeless people into less visible areas downtown.

Now, in advance of the 2028 Olympics, Mayor Karen Bass is pledging that the city will not resort to such severe tactics to remove the tens of thousands living here without shelter
