Teenagers on winter break from San Pedro schools better make sure they don't stay out too late during the holiday period.
Los Angeles police announced Monday that officers will be enforcing the 10 p.m. curfew in an effort to cut down on crime.
For the next three weeks while school is not in session, police will conduct what they call "concentrated enforcement on juvenile curfew violators."
Anyone under 18 and found to be loitering in streets, alleys and other public places between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. is subject to a ticket, Detective Tanya Bowie said.
Teenagers with good excuses for being out after 10 - such as going home from a movie - might be excused, but those hanging around could be subject to a $50 ticket on a first offense.
Repeat offenders can pay up to $300 to $400.
Teens will be taken to the Harbor Area police station, where their parents will have to pick them up, Bowie said.
Police are targeting teens to reduce burglaries and car break-ins in San Pedro, Bowie said.
Officers also are hoping to protect teens from being crime victims themselves while staying out late at night, Bowie said.
