Police on Tuesday warned residents to be on the lookout for burglars using distraction schemes to get into homes in West Hills and Woodland Hills.
Suspects have posed as someone looking for a lost dog or workers trying to verify a property fence line in at least two incidents in the last two weeks, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The suspects will often target the elderly and work in teams to distract the victim while another suspect enters the house and steals small valuables such as jewelry and money, according to the LAPD.
Burglars have struck homes on Berdon Street in Woodland Hills and Platt Avenue in West Hills.
Police suggested asking for photographic identification if someone claims to be working for a utility or a legitimate company, or to call police or 311 to verify someone claiming to be a city worker. Residents are also asked to notify elderly neighbors who may not have internet access.
