Los Angeles police say two people have been arrested in connection with a large commercial theft ring that stole more than $6 million in baby formula and personal care products from retailers in the last several months.
Capt. Steven Sambar said Thursday that the year-long investigation targeted the so-called Hernandez organization, which fenced items that sophisticated "booster" crews shoplifted from department stores, supermarkets and pharmacies.
The ring bought stolen merchandise and sold it at swap meets or flea markets.
Police say 15 search warrants and six arrest warrants have been issued.
The National Retail Federation says stores lost tens of billions of dollars last year to organized retail theft, which exceeds all property crimes combined.
