Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa on Monday nominated Sherman Oaks resident Richard Drooyan, an attorney with a long history of police reform, to the Los Angeles Police Commission.
Drooyan, 59, was a member of the blue-ribbon Christopher Commission formed to reform the LAPD after the Rodney King beating. He also served as general counsel to the Rampart Independent Review Panel.
If approved by the City Council, he would fill the vacancy left by Andrea Sheridan Ordin, who resigned when she was named Los Angeles County Counsel.
Drooyan is a litigation attorney at the firm of Munger, Tolles and Olson. He previously worked at the U.S. Attorney's Office in a variety of supervisory positions.
