Granada Hills man charged with setting fire to gentlemen’s club

A Granada Hills man accused of being a “serial arsonist” faces felony charges in connection with fires at a Canoga Park gentlemen’s club and an electrical vault in the Los Angeles Fashion District. Cyrus Farsaad, 47, is charged with arson and two counts of arson of structure, all felonies, in the series of fires beginning in early March, the L.A. County district attorney’s office said. He faces up to 14 years and four months in prison if convicted. Prosecutors said Farsaad started a March 2 fire in the electrical vault in a Fashion District warehouse and returned six days later to do so again. The fire caused minor damage after spreading to the warehouse, but no one was injured. Farsaad set fire to the gentlemen’s club March 5, causing charring, heat and smoke damage, prosecutors said. The club was closed and no one was injured. Farsaad pleaded not guilty on Thursday, and bail was set at $200,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 7. “Serial arsonists pose a grave threat to our communities. They threaten property, livelihoods and put lives at risk,” L.A. County Dist. Atty. Nathan Hochman said in a news release. “This conduct will not be tolerated.”

Ex-girlfriend hired hit man in SoCal murder plot, police say; 4 arrested

A Murrieta woman is accused of hiring a hit man to kill her ex-boyfriend, and investigators say others may have been involved in the alleged plot. Ignacia Cadaos Perkins, 40, is facing three murder-related charges in connection with the death of her ex-boyfriend, 30-year-old Aaron Parr of Murrieta. Parr was found Jan. 13 inside an apartment in the 24000 block of Jackson Avenue, according to the Murrieta Police Department. Authorities have not provided details on Parr’s death, including the cause, but the circumstances spurred them to launch a homicide investigation. More than two weeks later, Perkins and 43-year-old James Lawrence Petri, described by authorities as an Alabama resident and acquaintance of Perkins, were charged with Parr’s murder. Investigators have suggested the killing may have been motivated by financial gain. On Friday, two additional men were arrested in connection with the case. Jerry Wheeler, 34, of Georgia and Kenneth Maxwell, 39, of Alabama are accused of being involved in the plot and are facing three murder-related charges. It is not yet clear what role they are accused of playing in the killing or how they may be connected to Perkins.

BWC: Naked man fleeing from California officers tries to attack them with shovel before OIS

The Yuba City Police Department released a video Friday afternoon chronicling the sequence of events on Feb. 26 when a local man, nude and wielding a shovel, was shot twice by police officers. Under state law, the police department has 30 days from the date of the incident to release body-worn camera footage. The graphic video appears to show the entire incident in which the suspect, 31-year-old Guillermo Figueroa of Yuba City ultimately was shot. Officers involved were Emilio Campos and Christopher Doble. Figuero is still in a Sacramento -area hospital in critical but stable condition. The video, narrated by Yuba City Police Chief Jim Runyen, depicts footage taken from body cams, a Ring camera and provides audio from 911 calls during the incident that occurred in the 1800 block of Rapid Falls Drive. Figuero’s lower half of his body was blurred throughout the video. “As part of our commitment to transparency, we are releasing body-worn camera footage along with surveillance and residential video related to this critical incident,” Runyen said in the video.

Officer testifies about ‘lightning speed’ ambush that killed NYPD cop

Slain NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller ’s partner broke down in tears Wednesday as he described video of the slaying that appeared to show the ex-con accused of murdering Diller break into a grin as he lay on the pavement after the deadly Queens shooting. Accused killer Guy Rivera, who was also shot in the split-second encounter, was on the ground on his side, placed in a “recovery position” to keep him alive, Diller’s friend and fellow officer, Detective Derval Whyte testified in Queens Supreme Court Wednesday. “That’s the defendant in the recovery position. It looks like he’s smiling,” said Whyte, who cried and held his head as he rewatched his own body-worn camera footage from the March 25, 2024, shooting. It was the first time jurors had seen that angle of the shooting and heard Whyte’s anguished cries after seeing Diller, 31, on his back, unresponsive. Rivera’s apparent smile was visible when prosecutors stopped the chaotic footage to show the suspect on the ground.
