LAPD Search For Suspects After 1-Year-Old Shot Outside Burger Restaurant

Police are searching for two suspects who opened fire at a hamburger restaurant in South Los Angeles leaving a 1-year-old injured. The Los Angeles Police Department responded shortly before 6 p.m. on Monday to the burger joint located at 81st Street and Avalon Boulevard. The investigation revealed that the suspects fired several rounds into the 'Monster Burger' before leaving. When officers arrived at the scene they discovered a child was injured while sitting in a car with their mother when shots were fired. LAPD said the girl was shot in the foot and was taken to a hospital and was in stable condition. Police recovered .40 caliber and 9mm ammunition at the scene. The two suspects were last seen traveling southbound on Avalon Boulevard in a silver Kia Optima with an unknown Texas license plate number, police said. Both suspects were described men in their 20s, one wearing a black jacket while the other wore a gray coat. Anyone with information regarding the shooting was urged to call 911. Man Fatally Stabbed In Downtown LA

A Hispanic man between 30 and 40 years old was fatally stabbed Sunday night in downtown Los Angeles. The stabbing took place around 10:40 p.m. near the intersection of 1st and Hill streets, Los Angeles police officer Robin Sanchez said. The fire department responded to the scene and pronounced the man dead at the scene from one stab wound to the chest. A motive for the stabbing was unknown, Sanchez said. His name will be withheld pending notification of the next of kin. Police do not have any description of the suspect. Woman Killed In Sun Valley Hit-and-Run Crash

A 26-year-old woman was killed Saturday when her car rear-ended a big rig in Sun Valley, whose driver failed to stop, police said. The victim's 2015 Nissan Versa was traveling northbound on Lankershim Boulevard approaching Cayuga Avenue at 3:55 a.m. Saturday when it rear-ended the big rig, which had a white cabin and dark-colored trailer, according to a statement by the Los Angeles Police Department. "The force of the collision caused the Versa to continue in a northeast direction causing it to roll over," the statement said. "The hit- and-run driver in the trailer truck failed to stop, identify themselves, or attempt to render aid and was last seen northbound (on) Lankershim Boulevard from Cayuga Avenue. " Paramedics pronounced the woman dead at the scene, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported. No other injuries were reported. The LAPD's Valley Traffic Division urged anyone with information about the crash to call them at 818-644-8000. 2 Suspects On The Run After Shooting In North Hollywood

A search for two suspects is underway after a shooting in a busy retail center in North Hollywood Sunday night, authorities announced. Officers responded to calls of an assault with a deadly weapon in the 11000 block of Victory Boulevard, near Vineland Avenue, just before 9:30 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Police said the victim of the shooting, described only as a man of Middle Eastern descent, had the back of his white Mercedes G-Wagon SUV shot out. The suspects were last seen fleeing westbound on Victory Boulevard toward Tujunga Avenue. One of the suspects is described as a Black male, approximately 20 years old. Authorities did not have a description for the second suspect. It is unclear if they fled the area on foot or if they were in a vehicle. So far, no injuries have been reported, according to police. No further details about the incident were provided.

Missing Northern Californian Woman Last Seen In MacArthur Park Area

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Sunday circulated photos of a 40-year-old bipolar Northern Californian woman who may be in the MacArthur Park area of Los Angeles. Amanda Clarke, a resident of Placer County, was last seen on May 21 at about 6 a.m., in the 2200 block of West Sixth Street, the Sheriff’s Information Bureau reported. Clarke was described as a 5-feet-2-inch tall white woman weighing 125 pounds with blond hair and hazel eyes. The sheriff’s Missing Persons Unit urged anyone with information regarding Clarke’s whereabouts to call them at 323-890-5500. Arson Investigation Launched After Fire Burns Historic South LA Church For Second Time In Two Years

An arson investigation was under way Sunday after fire damaged a nearly 100-year-old Los Angeles church for the second time in less than two years, authorities. Flames broke out shorty before 7 p.m. Saturday in the sanctuary of St. John’s United Methodist Church and spread into a balcony, the Los Angeles Fire Department said in a statement. More than 30 firefighters took about 20 minutes to extinguish the blaze at the two-story church in the Watts neighborhood, the statement said. No injuries were reported. The blaze occurred as St. John’s was undergoing renovations from another fire that caused major damage in February 2022, the Los Angeles Times reported. After the earlier fire, worshippers moved services to the parking lot, where they were still being held as of this weekend, the Times said. The church, built in the Spanish Colonial style with a red-tile roof and beige exterior, is celebrating 97 years of ministry in the Watts community south of downtown LA, according to its Facebook page.

Man Arrested After Being Caught On Camera Snatching Purse From Woman At Culver City Restaurant

A man who was caught on surveillance video stealing a purse from a woman dining at a Culver City restaurant has been arrested, police announced. Video, shared by Culver City Police Department, shows a man snatching the purse as he walked alongside the restaurant patio on the sidewalk. The man the woman was dining with quickly got up and chased after the suspect. Police say a fight between the suspect and the victim's friend broke out, resulting in shots being fired. A getaway car, with two people inside, was parked nearby. According to police, when the suspect and victim were fighting, one of the other suspects inside the vehicle fired one round. The suspect then got into the vehicle and drove off. The incident happened May 14 near Culver Blvd. and Watseka Ave. Police were able to identify the suspect and arrested him days later. The suspect's name has not been released, but police say he had a prior arrest for murder and was currently on parole for shooting at an occupied house.vehicle. Chiropractor Pleads Guilty To Sexual Assaults On 7 Women; Worked In 4 SoCal Counties

A 61-year-old chiropractor pleaded guilty Monday and was immediately sentenced to five years in prison for sex assaults on seven women in offices throughout the Southland. Lincoln Esguerra Carillo pleaded guilty to seven counts of felony sexual penetration by means of fraudulent representation of professional purpose, four counts of sexual battery by fraud and a dozen misdemeanor counts of touching an intimate part of another person. Carillo worked at Twins Chiropractic in Irvine for about four years, according to the Orange County District Attorney's Office. While working there he treated one patient multiple times for chronic neck pain in April and May 2021, prosecutors said. Six other women said they were assaulted by him at the office between January and August 2021, prosecutors said. Carillo has worked at offices in Artesia, Los Angeles, Fountain Valley, Seal Beach, Long Beach, Orange, Upland, Cerritos, Costa Mesa, Placentia, Garden Grove, Riverside and Herndon, Virginia.

'I'm Shot': BWC Shows Tennessee Officer Getting Shot In The Ribs While Pursuing Suspect

An officer with the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department is in the hospital after a suspect shot him near an airport, WTVF reports. The shooting happened Thursday afternoon and body-worn camera footage of the incident was released late Thursday night. Officer Donovan Coble was responding to a call when he saw a man trying to break into cars. As the man attempted to hop a fence, Coble ordered him to stop. That's when the suspect shot at Coble, hitting him in the side, police said. In the video, as Coble and the suspect ran through some yards, Coble noticed the suspect had a gun. "Drop that gun!" Coble can be heard on the video. After a quick exchange of gunfire with the suspect, the video shows Coble getting hit and getting up off the ground. “I’m hit, I'm hit, I'm hit," Coble said as he ran for help. When Coble got into a patrol vehicle, someone over the radio asked him where he was hit. "Hit in the ribs," he responds. Coble was taken to the hospital for surgery in critical condition, but police said he is expected to survive.

'You're Looking For Me': Convicted Killer Calls Texas Police To Confess To Another Murder

A Texas man previously convicted of murder called police to confess to killing his roommate and another woman, prompting authorities to investigate whether he could be linked to other cold cases. “My name is Raul Meza and you’re looking for me,” Meza allegedly said on the call to authorities, which Austin Police shared during a press conference. Homicide detective Patrick Reed recalled speaking with Meza, who outlined in detail how he murdered his roommate, 80-year-old Jesse Fraga, before implicating himself in the 2019 murder of Austin woman Gloria Lofton. He is now facing charges in connection with both slayings. Authorities found Fraga stabbed to death with a belt around his neck inside the Pflugerville home he shared with Meza, ABC News reported. They were performing a wellness check requested by Fraga’s family ― who had not been able to reach him for more than a week ― when they discovered his body on May 20.

Unruly-Passenger Incidents On Airplanes Up 47% Last Year Worldwide

With air travel recovering from the pandemic, a new study found that bad behavior among airline passengers has continued to rise. A new analysis by the International Air Transport Assn. shows that unruly-passenger incidents on airplanes increased 47% from 2021 to 2022, from one incident per 835 flights to one incident per 568 flights. Though incidents of physical abuse often draw the most attention, the most common types of incidents were “non-compliance, verbal abuse and intoxication,” according to the report. Other misdeeds included bringing outside alcoholic drinks into the cabin, failing to wear a seat belt and packing too much baggage. Physical abuse incidents occurred on 1 in every 17,200 flights, a small fraction, but still an increase of 61% over the prior year. By comparison, the odds of a person being struck by lightning in their lifetime are 1 in 15,300, according to the National Weather Service.

1st Case Of West Nile Virus Found In LA County Mosquito This Year

A mosquito has tested positive for the West Nile virus in Burbank. This is the first confirmed case of the virus in Los Angeles County this year. Summer and fall are peak seasons for the virus, which is spread to humans who are bitten by an infected mosquito. Most people who are infected with West Nile do not feel sick, according to the CDC. About 1 in 5 people infected develop a fever and other symptoms, and 1 in 150 people develop a serious -- sometimes fatal -- illness from the virus. There are no vaccines or medications to treat the virus in people, according to the CDC. To prevent West Nile, experts recommend using bug repellent and getting rid of any standing water outside your home.

LA County Offering Hepatitis Vaccinations After Possible Exposure At Men's Central Jail

In the wake of a reported case of Hepatitis A in a person who was recently detained at the Men's Central Jail, Los Angeles County health officials Saturday will begin offering free hepatitis vaccinations to anyone who may have been exposed. People who were at the jail between May 13 and May 28 were urged to get vaccinated against the virus. Shots will be offered Wednesdays through Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Obregon Park, 4021 E. First St., and Ted Watkins Memorial Park, 1335 E. 103rd St. Shots will be offered on Thursday, Friday and Saturday of next week at Market Street Center, 22900 Market St. in Santa Clarita.
