LAPD detectives are searching for anyone who may have fallen victim to a man who allegedly claimed to be a DMV employee and offered driver's licenses and social security cards in exchange for money.

Julio Alvitres, of Los Angeles, was arrested in the Mid-City area around 1:50 p.m. Sunday, according to police. The 54-year-old, also known as Julio Cesar Campos, approached Mexican, Central and South American nationals in the Mid-City area and asked if they were interested in obtaining driver's licenses or social security cards for $3,000, police said.

Investigators say the suspect claimed to be an employee of the West Covina DMV office and even carried a fake employee card to show the victims.

The victims provided down payments ranging from $500 to more than $1,000.

Once a down payment was made, the suspect would stop all contacts with his victims.

Alvitres was booked for possession of forged identification and has been released on $20,000 bail.
