Fresno Police say 4-year-old Tiffany Matias was found at her grandmother's house in Los Angeles. Matias' mother reported her missing Tuesday when she never came home from school. Police got to the bottom of the girl's disappearance by talking to family and friends. This is not the first time there has been a family dispute involving Tiffany Matias.
They say the grandmother, Margarita Matias, was upset the family move to Fresno from LA with her 4 year old granddaughter. The LAPD found the girl around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday and placed her in protective custody.
"In fact we had a call in July 2009, where there was an attempt on the part of the grandmother to take the 4-year-old to the Los Angeles area but she was not successful in that," said Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer.
Police are still looking for 15-year-old Jazmin Urena. They say she is Tiffany's babysitter. Police say Urena is a runaway from the Los Angeles area, who knew the girl's grandmother prior to moving to Fresno. Police say she has been living with the Matias family in Fresno for the past month and on Tuesday she took the girl on a Greyhound bus to Los Angeles.
Police are looking into filing criminal charges against Urena, the girls grandmother in LA. Tiffany Matias' mother could also face charges here in Fresno, for harboring a runaway teen.
