Desperate LA mayor hopeful Nithya Raman drops huge U-turn on key policy that’ll infuriate lefties
Los Angeles mayoral hopeful Nithya Raman is desperately backpedaling from her former “defund the police” rhetoric in a dramatic campaign U-turn that could alienate her far-left base. The Democratic socialist city councilwoman — who previously pushed to slash police funding during the height of 2020 activism — is now publicly abandoning the controversial stance as she battles incumbent Karen Bass and reality TV personality Spencer Pratt in the increasingly heated race for City Hall.
Man Pleads Guilty to Shooting Paintballs at LAPD Officer
A Southern California man who allegedly shot paintballs at an officer during anti-immigration enforcement protests in downtown Los Angeles last summer is expected to plead guilty Monday to a federal charge. Edwin Osvaldo Manriquez was accused of pulling the trigger on a paintball gun and dispersing multiple rounds on the afternoon of June 9, 2025, near the Federal Building. An officer with the Federal Protective Service — which protects federal buildings — was hit in the head, ear, neck and elsewhere, according to papers filed in Los Angeles federal court. Manriquez, whose age and hometown were not immediately available, has agreed to plead guilty before U.S. District Judge Anne Hwang to a charge of “assault on federal officer by deadly or dangerous weapon.” The charge carries a possible federal prison sentence of up to 20 years. Prosecutors contend the defendant pulled the trigger while in the passenger seat of a white 2005 Infiniti G35 coupe. After firing the paintball gun, the suspect allegedly “threw a hand sign with his left hand while still holding the paintball gun in his right hand,” the affidavit in the case states.

Man wanted by FBI in connection with 2005 murder of teen in Sylmar
The FBI is offering a reward of up to $20,000 for information leading to the arrest of a man who allegedly shot and killed a 14-year-old boy in Sylmar more than 20 years ago. Manuel Virgen-Galvan is wanted in connection with the killing that happened on June 29, 2005, according to the agency. Authorities say the teen was shot in front of his home while painting a friend's bicycle. Virgen-Galvan, who was born in Mexico and may currently be living there, was charged with murder, and a state warrant was issued for his arrest in July 2005, the FBI said. A federal arrest warrant was then issued in January 2006 after he was charged federally with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. He was described by the FBI as a 5-foot-9, 165-pound man in his 40s with black hair, brown eyes and a missing front tooth. Undercover officers swarmed the property, breaking locks and doors to reveal what they described as stacks of stolen merchandise. Video shows a little bit of everything inside the room -- from acoustic drum parts, to power tools and boxes of jeans. "We've seen DeWalt. We've seen Nike. We have seen our stolen product that, what brought us here in the first place," an undercover LAPD detective said.
