LAPD Responds To Illegal Street Takeovers At 3 Intersections In South Los Angeles

Police responded overnight Sunday to illegal street takeovers at three separate intersections in South Los Angeles. No arrests were announced. The sideshows occurred that the San Pedro and Century Boulevard, Normandie and Florence Avenue, and Crenshaw Boulevard and Coliseum Street, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department. At one point, spectators blocked a maintenance truck from driving through one of the intersections. Police officers responded to the scenes but no arrests were announced.

Bee Swarm Sends LAPD Volunteer To Hospital

A bee swarm in Encino on Monday afternoon sent two people to a hospital and prompted warnings for residents to stay inside and shut their doors and windows, officials said. The swarm, described as thousands of bees in strength, was reported in the 17100 block of Adlon Road, near Encino Reservoir, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. One man was taken to a hospital after suffering multiple stings, a department spokeswoman said. His condition is unknown. A second man, described as a Los Angeles Police Department volunteer assigned to the West Valley Division, also required medical attention after suffering "dozens of bee stings" while assisting with the call, the LAPD said on Twitter. As of Monday night, he was in stable condition at a local hospital, the department added. A professional bee remover is required to deal with the swarm, according to the fire department. Officials warned residents to not go outside, and the LAPD closed Adlon Place and Adlon Road as part of the incident response.

Security Guard Struck By Marbles Fired From Paintball Gun In North Hollywood

A security guard was reportedly struck by glass marbles fired out of a paintball gun in North Hollywood at about 10:45 p.m. Monday. Los Angeles police officers responded to the parking lot of the Chevron gas station on the northeast corner of Whitsett Avenue and Sherman Way after the guard pulled in with damaged windows to his car Monday night. The guard said multiple people followed him on Sherman Way and fired at him, striking him in the neck and chest. He said he was followed from an ATM and was attacked near a Starbucks store. Windows on both sides of his vehicle had holes in them resembling bullet holes. The passenger window was blown out and the driver's side was shattered. Glass marbles were found in the vehicle. Officers said the shooting was likely from a paintball-firing replica gun. The unidentified guard said he was struck multiple times. He was wearing a bulletproof vest.

JoJo Siwa's Tarzana Home Burglarized

Police are investigating after the home of celebrity JoJo Siwa was burglarized Monday. It happened around 2:40 a.m. at the dancer's home in Tarzana, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Surveillance video posted by Siwa on Snapchat shows what appears to be at least two burglars taking off with multiple bags. Siwa said there was some damage, but no one was at home at the time. A burglary report was filed, the LAPD said. It's unknown exactly what was taken.

West Hollywood Marijuana Dispensary Burglarized By 12 Suspects

A marijuana dispensary was broken into early Tuesday morning and thousands of dollars' worth of product was stolen. According to a security guard at the location at 8477 Sunset Boulevard, just east of La Cienega, about 12 male suspects wearing ski masks broke a window to gain entry, possibly with a large lug-nut, at 4:50 a.m. About $11,000 worth of product in bags of merchandise was stolen, according to the guard. The suspects fled in two vehicles. No further descriptions were released.

Accidental Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound Sends Westside Child To Hospital

A boy was taken to a hospital Monday in stable condition after accidentally shooting himself in Santa Monica, authorities said. The Santa Monica Police Department responded to the 800 block of Second Street about 2:20 p.m. to a report about a gunshot wound, according to an SMPD spokeswoman. Officers arrived and located a boy, whose age was not disclosed, with an apparently self-inflicted accidental gunshot wound to his hand, a spokeswoman said. It's unclear how the boy obtained the firearm, but police said he was taken to a hospital in stable condition and may need to undergo surgery. There were no other reported injuries.

Authorities Searching For At-Risk 29-Year-Old Woman Missing Out Of Sylmar

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Missing Persons Unit is asking for the public’s help in locating an at-risk missing 29-year-old woman, authorities announced Sunday. Ashley Lynn Poots was last seen Sunday, just after 1 p.m., on the 14400 block of Olive View Drive in Sylmar. The 29-year-old is described as a white female, 5 foot 6 inches tall, weighing around 120 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and gray pants, according to an LASD bulletin. “Ms. Poots suffers from depression and there is concern for her well-being,” LASD said. Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact LASD’s Missing Persons at 323-890-5500. Man Sentenced To Up To 92 Years In Prison For Shooting Iowa Deputy During Robbery

A Chicago man who was convicted of shooting and seriously wounding an Iowa sheriff's deputy during a convenience store robbery in 2021 has been sentenced to up to 92 years in prison. Thirty-eight-year-old Stanley Donahue will have to serve at least 60 years before he is eligible for parole. He was sentenced Friday on multiple charges including attempted murder of a peace officer related to the shooting in Coggon, a town about 20 miles (32 kilometers) northeast of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Prosecutors said Donahue robbed two employees at a Casey’s store and confined them in a cooler before shooting Linn County deputy Will Halverson seven times on June 20, 2021. Donahue fled and was later arrested after a more than 12-hour manhunt that ended when he was spotted by a television news crew. Halverson said at the sentencing hearing that the shooting had permanently affected his life even though he was able to return to work after he recovered from his injuries. On the night he was shot, Halverson said he thought he was going to die.

Fire Damages Apartment Building In Pico-Union Area

A fire damaged a two-story residential building in the Pico-Union area Monday afternoon. The fire was reported around12:45 p.m. in the triplex in the 1400 block of South Burlington Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. The flames, which burned through the roof of the building, were extinguished in about 26 minutes, the LAFD reported. The cause for the fire is still under investigation, but officials say it may be related to a "roofing operation."

Fire Extinguished At Wine Bar In Sherman Oaks

Firefighters contained and extinguished a fire at a one-story wine bar Tuesday in Sherman Oaks. Fire crews responded at 3:14 a.m. to 13456 W. Ventura Blvd. west of Woodman and Fulton avenues where they encountered a fully involved fire with flames coming through the roof in a row of commercial units, Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart said. It took 54 firefighters 29 minutes to put out the fire. No injuries were reported and motorists were advised to avoid the area on Ventura between Greenbush and Allott avenues, Stewart said.

LA City Council To Vote On Controversial Hotel Development In Benedict Canyon

The Los Angeles City Council Tuesday is set to vote on whether to reconsider a land use designation for the Bulgari Hotel project -- a controversial development proposal in Benedict Canyon that has drawn attention from residents, Hollywood celebrities and others. The motion, introduced by Councilwoman Katy Yaroslavsky, whose 5th District would be the location of the hotel project, requests the director of city planning consider rescinding the initiation of a General Plan amendment for the hotel. The Department of Planning had approved a process that would give a specific designation to the project, allowing the commercial project be developed in a residential area. In March, the council's Planning and Land Use Committee deadlocked in a 2-2 vote, with Councilwoman Heather Hutt absent that meeting, on whether support the motion. As a result, no recommendation from the committee will be brought forward on Tuesday when full council will take up the matter.
