Street vendor suffers brutal attack while working in downtown Los Angeles, video shows
A local street vendor is recovering after a brutal attack at her stand in downtown Los Angeles - and it was all caught on video. A video posted to Instagram on Sunday shows some type of argument between a woman and the street vendor. The woman is seen dumping hot sauce on the vendor's hot dogs causing the vendor to throw a red powder at the woman. The altercation quickly escalated to a physical attack. The woman approaches the street vendor as the vendor tries to get away. Both then fall to the ground and the woman throws punches to the back of the vendor's head, according to the video. Bystanders attempt to separate the women and stop the attack. As the vendor is being helped up from the ground and begins walking away, the video shows the woman coming up behind the vendor and once again begins to beat her on the head and face before pulling the vendor by the hair and onto the ground.
Man arrested after allegedly returning to REI in Marina del Rey on stolen E-Bike
A man accused of stealing a high-value electric bicycle from a Marina del Rey retailer last year was arrested after returning to the same store while riding the allegedly stolen bike, authorities told NBC4 Investigates. Deputies assigned to the Marina del Rey Sheriff's Station arrested 48-year-old Rene Garcia Garcia on Monday as part of ongoing efforts to combat retail theft and property crimes in the area. According to investigators, Garcia allegedly stole a Cannondale electric bicycle valued at approximately $1,975 from the REI store in Marina del Rey on July 31, 2025. On Monday evening, Garcia returned to the same REI location, where the store's Asset Protection Manager recognized him as the suspect involved in the earlier theft, authorities said. Deputies, who were conducting follow-up enforcement efforts related to recent theft incidents, responded to the store and identified Garcia inside the business. Garcia was arrested without incident, investigators said. He was booked on felony theft-related charges pending review by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Authorities later determined that Garcia had ridden the bicycle reported stolen in July 2025 back to the store on the day of his arrest.

Calif. officers arrest suspect 4 minutes after first 911 call in library shooting that killed 2
The 18-year-old suspect in a shooting at a Northern California library did a walk-through of the building, then went to his vehicle, got a shotgun and fatally shot a man at the main door and another inside, law enforcement said Tuesday. Chico Police Chief Billy Aldridge said gunshots and screams could be heard on a 911 call Monday evening from the Butte County Library’s branch in Chico — a city of about 100,000 people about 150 miles (240 kilometers) northeast of San Francisco. “From the first 911 call to having him in custody was less than four minutes,” Aldridge said, praising officers for stemming the loss of life. The suspect shot a man at the entrance of the library in the leg and then shot him in the head before firing multiple shots inside and shooting another man in the head, said Sid Patel, special agent in charge in the FBI’s Sacramento office. “Yesterday’s violent attack was horrific,” Patel said. “The full force of the FBI is assisting this investigation.” Authorities identified the men who died as 46-year-old Jacob Hull, who his brother said went by the name Cody, and 74-year-old Robert Johnson.
BWC video shows gunman’s ambush on Texas deputy constables
The Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office released body camera footage that shows a glimpse of an ambush attack on officers, KHOU reported. The June 19 incident began when deputies with the constable’s office responded to reports of a man randomly firing shots. When they arrived on scene, two deputies were shot. The body camera video shows the incident from the perspective of Deputy Dante Zepeda, who was struck twice by the rifle-wielding gunman, KHOU reported. Video shows Zepeda speaking with another deputy before shots ring out. Zepeda, now wounded, can be seen drawing his gun and pointing it, although the suspect is not visible in the video. Other deputies can be seen attempting to render aid and stop the bleeding from Zepeda’s arm and hand. They eventually drove Zepeda to a hospital themselves, KHOU reported. Zepeda was hit in his arm and wrist and Deputy George Esparza was hit by bullet fragments in his side, Constable Mark Herman said. The suspect was arrested an hour later with the assistance of a SWAT unit and K-9 team. He was taken to a hospital after suffering a severe bite by the K-9. He will face a charge of aggravated assault on a police officer once he is released.

Los Angeles firefighters say fire at Boyle Heights cold storage facility could be extinguished shortly
Officials are confident that the fire at a cold storage facility can be extinguished in the near future, after about a week of the blaze creating health hazards in the East Los Angeles neighborhood of Boyle Heights. In a news conference on Wednesday morning, Los Angeles Fire Department Captain Jacob Raabe said crews are "very close to final extinguishment" on the blaze that started last week at the 500,000-square-foot Lineage Big Bear cold storage facility at 1400 S. Los Palos Street. "The fire chief has set a goal for us ... to get this fire put out today," Raabe said. The LAFD said in an update Tuesday evening that smoke conditions have improved significantly and residents in the nearby area should expect better air quality in the days to come. Some smoke could remain in the area through the week, Raabe said, even after the blaze is extinguished. Raabe on Wednesday detailed the firefighting strategy, which included knocking down exterior walls in order to reach the flames in the center of the massive building with what he called "water cannons."
