FIFA World Cup 2026: FBI seizes 28 drones near SoFi Stadium, LA Coliseum
FBI agents have seized 28 drones near SoFi Stadium and the L.A. Memorial Coliseum since Friday, the agency's L.A. field office said. The drones were not seized because of any threat or plot but because they were flying in the Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) zone that has been set up for the World Cup. The FBI said there is "zero tolerance" for drones flying in the World Cup and that drone detection technology is in place. The agency said security was already in a heighted state for the World Cup even before the thwarted plot targeting the White House UFC event was made public.
Pursuit suspect facing attempted murder charges after wild crash at DTLA McDonald's
A high-speed police chase that started with a stolen car in Culver City came to a chaotic, crashing end at a McDonald's drive-thru near downtown Los Angeles. BWC: Man shoots at Ohio deputy during traffic stop, flees in vehicle before continuing to shoot at cops
A man engaged officers in two different shootouts before being fatally wounded as he fled from a multi-agency manhunt, according to the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office. The incident began on March 30 when a deputy stopped a vehicle for driving too closely to the vehicle in front of it. Body camera footage shows the deputy speaking to the driver as a man sat in the back seat. After several minutes, the deputy asked the driver to get out of the vehicle, followed by a man sitting in the back seat. As the man was getting out of the car, the deputy asked if he could search him for weapons. The man refused the search before becoming combative. The man then pulled a gun from his waistband before pointing it and firing at the deputy. The deputy, who was not struck, returned fire, but did not strike the suspect. He then got into the stopped vehicle and fled. The Ohio State Highway Patrol and Cadiz police joined the sheriff’s office in the pursuit. Officers deployed spike strips several times before the tire deflation devices disabled the vehicle, body camera video released by the Ohio Attorney General’s Office shows. When the vehicle came to a stop, the suspect got out and xchanged gunfire with officers before fleeing into the woods, prompting a multiagency manhunt. A trooper’s patrol vehicle was struck during the exchange of gunfire.
Video: Suspect pins Nev. trooper to fire truck before OIS
Nevada State Police unveiled new footage Tuesday from last week’s deadly police shooting on Interstate 11. The video showed the moments leading up to and after Nevada Highway Patrol trooper Dustin Dunbar shot at Sean Shirazi, 45, and Corinne Barnes, 40, after police said Shirazi drove through a crash scene in downtown Las Vegas on June 10, clipped a semi-truck and used his vehicle to pin Dunbar to a fire truck. Barnes died later that day from a gunshot wound to her torso at the Dignity Health- St. Rose Dominican Hospital, Sahara Campus, at West Sahara Avenue and South Decatur Boulevard, police said. Nevada State Police Colonel Michael Edgell told reporters Tuesday that an investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department’s Force Investigation Team found that Shirazi “used a vehicle in a manner that created an immediate threat to public safety and law enforcement personnel.” “The vehicle itself became the weapon used during the assault on the trooper,” Edgell said during a press conference at the Nevada Highway Patrol’s Southern Command Headquarters in the central valley. The Highway Patrol is part of the Nevada State Police.

Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann sentenced to life without parole
For decades, his crimes gripped the nation, and now two years after his arrest, the Gilgo Beach serial killer has been sentenced to life in prison without parole. Rex Heuermann, 62, was convicted of killing eight women on Long Island between 2010 and 2011. He was initially charged with four killings and pleaded not guilty. But as time went on and more victims were discovered, he not only changed his plea, he also admitted to one that investigators did not have on their radar. The case began with the 2010 disappearance of 23-year-old Shannon Gilbert. The search led to the remains of four women along Gilgo Beach in Suffolk County, New York: Maureen Brainerd Barnes and Melissa Barthelemy, both 24; Megan Waterman, 22; and 27-year-old Amber Lynn Castello. Their remains were found wrapped in burlap bags, all within a quarter mile of each other. A year later, additional remains were found scattered along Long Island, New York, most identified as sex workers who advertised on Craigslist.
